Moxie Fab World—Hoop La

It's day 3 with our guest bloggers on Moxie Fab World. Visiting today is Jocelyn Olson. Please give Jocelyn a warm welcome.

Hi everyone! It’s Jocelyn Olson from Red Balloon Cards.

If you’re like me, I love to find paper crafted gift ideas. I’ll search on Pinterest and Etsy, run across great ideas from other bloggers, and scroll through magazines to get ideas.

Let’s be real, though. I find many ideas for crafty gifts, and yet I don’t make most of them. I make lots of cards, bags, and tags, but in the craziness of the holidays, I tend to buy a present instead of making some cool, crafty gift. Is anyone else nodding?!

A couple of years ago, Cath wrote a Five for Friday post about embroidery hoops (go ahead and check out the Hoop La post). I.Loved.This.Post. I loved the little frames. I loved the fact that the projects were round instead of square or rectangle. I loved the homespun feel. They were perfect little works of art that were often, well, imperfect. I loved that!

These hoop projects would make great presents for neighbors, friends, teachers, and those hard-to-buy-for people on your list. I’ve pulled together a few examples to show different types of presents. All of these hoops could be easily translated to paper crafting items instead of fabric and floss.

Hoops as ornaments:

You could try Paper Smooches’ Warm Hearts stamps for the snowman and trees.

Have any holiday chipboard or stickers? Add a few buttons or flair, and you’ve got a cute hoop ornament.

Try cutting felt by hand or with a die like the Welcome Home dies from Sizzix.

Hoops as d├ęcor:

Deer heads are trendy right now. If you have a Silhouette die cutting machine, there are a few cutting files you could use to replicate the deer head in this hoop, such as THIS one and THIS one.

Stamps, Thickers, other letter stickers, die-cut words…any of these would work to make the Merry Merry Christmas hoop.

This hoop is a little less seasonal, but there are several great holiday stamp sets with wreaths and laurels, like WPlus9’s Heartfelt Holiday set, that would work for a personalized hoop.

Hoops as an Advent calendar:

An Advent calendar or any other type of countdown calendar would make a fabulous gift. Mix die-cuts, wood veneers, trinkets, bags, and tags on a larger hoop.

Are you feeling inspired to try your own hoops as gifts? Have you made an embroidery hoop using paper and scrapbooking supplies before? If so, please share in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by!

Such a fun post on hoops. I'm so with you on the buying gifts vs. making them, but these would be great to quickly put together...especially the smaller scaled ones!

Hi Jocelyn! Great post. I am in the same boat. I pin all kinds of fun and crafty gift ideas. But when the time comes, I have no more time to make gifts. Too much pinning, not enough making :(
