What I love most about Carolyn is her adaptability. She can do any and all styles well, and I admire her unquenchable thirst to grow as a card maker. She's been paper crafting for quite a while now, but her designs continue to evolve as trends come and go, creating a place for herself in this industry that is heartfelt and well-deserved.
Even more, you'll never find a more kind, supportive, and encouraging friend. I am so glad that I've gotten to know her over the years, and know that you will love hearing from her today as well.
So now, with out further ado, take it away Cammie!
My name is Carolyn King, but I go by Cammie or Cammie King on most online galleries (because somehow I thought it was safer to sign up using my nickname than my real name when I first started posting online!) My blog can be found HERE.
Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.
I am an intense, detail-oriented creative person who has a whacky sense of humor. :) Although I have a pretty busy life being a wife and mother to three kids—I always find some time to get inky because it truly is a great release when you can go into the office for 20 minutes and make something pretty that will brighten someone’s day. My greatest joys in life are my family and friends (including many paper crafting friends who have become some of my best friends.)
How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?
I have been paper crafting since 2005 or so. My family had just moved to Louisiana for our first army assignment. Being so far from friends and family, I began searching for a good creative outlet. I began with scrapbooking and then went to a Stampin’ Up! party and was hooked! I NEVER in a million years could have imagined that this hobby would become such a big part of my life. I am so fortunate to work some of the greatest stamp companies and publications out there. Paper crafting gives me something of my own and I really LOVE it.
What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World? What is your favorite feature and why? Do you have a favorite all-time post? If so, list the URL and tell why you like it so much.
The thing I like the most about Moxie Fab World is that it is an endless vault of inspiration. There are some days where I cannot stop by but I will be sure to look back at EVERY post because there is so much crammed into this blog. Cath catches everything and has a keen eye for trends and great design.
Although I love it all, I think my favorite is the Tuesday Trigger. I love the awesome things Cath finds to get the creative juices flowing. I don’t always get to play along with the deadline, but I am often inspired enough to play along for fun!
My favorite all-time post was this post, because of the totally inspiring cards that Cath shared from the challenge and because I was lucky enough to have a card shown! I truly design for myself but I will admit that it makes me feel great to hear that someone else likes what I design.
We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.
There are so many approaches to different challenges and assignments, and there are always people who will be better and more creative, but every person who makes a card puts a piece of him/herself into it. I definitely try to put myself into everything I create…and that is moxie fab enough for me. :)
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as ever-changing! I really like to mix up my designs and styles because I get bored easily. I try to make each project unique rather than a regurgitation of a previous project (Well, unless I really LOVE a previous project---then regurgitate it is!)
Here are a few examples of my work:
Paper Crafts magazine has produced a great number of special issues over the years. Which has been the most inspiring to you and why?
I really enjoy all the special issues that Paper Crafts puts out. I love Card Design Handbook:
and Practical Solutions for Paper Crafters:
...because they are great resource issues that I can consult if I need a spark of inspiration. However, my hands down favorite is Card Creations and I am proud to say that I have had a card in this magazine for the past 5 years…and with the spring issue that comes out in just a couple of weeks…it just might be 6. ;)
Attach an image of a paper crafted project of which you are the most proud or that means the most to you. Include a brief statement that explains why.
Here is a picture of one of my cards that I am very proud of because I designed the stamp set for Gina K Designs. It's called Stamp It Big! and I have really enjoyed bringing it to life by putting it to ink!
Where do you get most of your paper crafting inspiration? Why do you find so much inspiration there?
I get most of my paper crafting inspiration from my fellow design team members, from Pinterest, from magazines, manufacturer blogs and definitely from the Moxie Fab World. :)
Do you consider yourself to be a trend-watcher? Why or why not? Do you feel that trend-watching is important to your creativity? Why or why not?
I really do not consider myself to be a TREND watcher---but I am definitely a watcher. I keep my eyes open everywhere for things like colors, patterns, images that I think are fabulous and take note of them. I love to see what the paper manufacturers are coming out with each year. But, if I don’t like the particular trend, I don’t buy into it. Just because someone says this is the “in” thing does not mean I will be buying it. That being said…I can usually find some fabulous trendy things that I DO love!
