Moxie Fab "Stamp" of Approval: Unity Stamp Company

Let's take a journey with Unity Stamp Company into the fun and cute, shall we? And somewhere along the way, we'll stop for a bit of whimsy. And then, we'll take a side trip to the land of sweet and nostalgic before turning for home. Are you ready? Fasten your seat belts, for this is going to be one FUN ride! Check it:

Now that's what I call a "joy" ride! Thanks for coming with! Before you go, be sure and leave a comment by midnight EDT on Sunday, April 8 and I'll draw two luckies to win everything you see here today!

Stamp me happy,

~Cath

PS Many of you have been asking how my shoulder is doing, so I thought I'd give you a little update today. After my last cortisone shot on Valentine's Day, my shoulder improved significantly. I can do more things with less pain (including the work I do on the computer, hurray!), and I have been able to add more exercises to my physical therapy regimen with more reps. But those gall-durned calcium deposits are still wreaking havoc in there, unfortunately, and I'm still not back to my old self. I see the cortisone doc again later today, and will most likely undergo a procedure called a lavage and aspiration in which they will literally "suck out" the calcium deposits with a big ol' needle. Keep your fingers crossed, because if this doesn't work, the next step is surgery. I'll let you know how it goes, and thank you so much for all your messages of concern and support. You guys are the moxie fabbiest!

Moxie Fabber of the Week: Donna Bowman

I've got another Moxie Fabber of the Week treat for you, friends. I've gotten to know Donna Bowman through her interaction here in the Moxie Fab World, and if ever there were a definition of sweet, she would be it.

Perhaps I am drawn to her because of our mutual love for Corgis (my mother-in-law always has two of them), a common interest in a less-is-more philosophy (I am constantly striving to aspire to this), and a love of paper crafting (of course!) But really, Donna is just so nice, kind, and lovely that you can't help but think of her as a friend right away.

What strikes me most about Donna is that she says she's a clean and graphic girl, but really, she can do all styles well--and for those of you who know how difficult it can be to not only figure out what your style is, let alone try others that are out of our comfort zones, this is something to be much admired.

But I'll let all y'all decide for yourselves. Take it away, Donna!

What is your full name? What is your screen name? Do you have a blog or an on-line gallery?

My full name is Donna Bowman. My screen name is either my full name, or Donna B. and on Flickr and Splitcoast Stampers I’m Corgidusty. I have a blog called The Crafty Corgi

Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.

I would describe myself as independent, loyal, and creative. I love to travel, especially to Europe, and my favorite city is London. I love my two dogs, paper crafting, shopping for paper crafting supplies, organizing, Corgis, Trollbeads, candy corn, snowmen, dark chocolate Kisses, social networking, Photoshop, working out, interior design, and all things Apple.

How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?

I’ve been paper crafting since 1996 when a friend of mine invited me to a Stampin’ Up! party. I started out making cards and scrapbooking my goddaughter’s baby years. From 2000 to around 2008 I made greeting cards from graphics of dog breeds that I created and sold them online. In 2010, I started stamping again and making my own handmade cards when I was introduced to this wonderful online community and I haven’t stopped since! My favorite aspect of paper crafting is the feeling I get after putting together the elements of a card and making my own little piece of art.

What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World? What is your favorite feature and why? Do you have a favorite all-time post? If so, list the URL and tell why you like it so much.

I like just about everything in the Moxie Fab World. Especially the way Cath is so welcoming and makes us all feel so at home. It’s like hanging out with friends every time I go there. I would have to say, my favorite feature in the Moxie Fab World is the Tuesday Trigger. I love the inspiration photos and try to play whenever I can. My favorite post was the Stripetastic Trigger, probably because I was a Trigger Target in that one!! Here’s the card I made for it:

We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.

Like everyone says, this is the hardest question. I guess, one thing that makes me moxie fab is my enthusiasm for paper crafting that has led to so many new relationships with others who share my passion for creating. I love that I have made so many new friends through paper crafting.

Name a paper crafter who inspires you. Why are you drawn to his or her work?

The paper crafter I am most inspired by is Teri Anderson. I love how she uses fun graphic elements in so many different ways. I’m always amazed at how she puts the elements of her card together to come up with so many new and fresh designs.

How would you describe your style? Provide an image of a paper crafted project that illustrates that style best.

I would describe my main style as clean and graphic, and in general I have a less-is-more aesthetic. Having said that, I also love to make scenes, color with my Copics, create cards from just paper shapes and sometimes I pull out the distress inks and get a little funky. Here are some items that represent my different “styles.”

I love this graphic bag I created with a Papertrey Ink chevron stamp . It was even a Moxie Fab Chevron Chic Challenge winner!

Here’s a scene I created with a Hero Arts stamp called Newspaper Skyline:

I made this graphic card using circles, rectangles and a triangle:

I used my Copics on this image from Impression Obsession:

This a funky card I made recently with distress inks, colored pencils and some fun new Dylusions stamps.

Paper Crafts magazine has produced a great number of special issues over the years. Which has been the most inspiring to you and why?

The most inspiring Paper Crafts special issue for me is the first one I ever purchased, Card Style. I started to gravitate toward one section and realized that I did have my own style. I associated most with the Clean & Graphic section and that is my first love. However, as you have seen, I also love to try different things. I looked at this issue so often, that it was getting very worn so I ordered another one and I haven’t taken it out of the plastic!

Attach an image of a paper crafted project of which you are the most proud or that means the most to you.

I’m showing this card because it is hands down the most popular card I have ever made. I had an idea for this card one night and when I woke up the next day I put it together in about 30 minutes and posted it to an online challenge and my Splitcoast Stampers gallery. Then, within a few hours my e-mail started dinging and dinging. It was featured by Splitcoast on Twitter and Facebook and people started commenting on it. I had no idea it would be so well received. It won the challenge and it has been a hit ever since. A friend of mine calls it my viral card because it is frequently posted on blogs around the world and brings many new visitors to my Web site monthly. I have found that lots of people really like buttons and rainbows!!

Do you consider yourself to be a trend-watcher? Why or why not? Do you feel that trend-watching is important to your creativity? Why or why not?

I am absolutely a trend watcher. That’s one of the main reasons I love the Moxie Fab World. I love it when Cath (or her friends) go to CHA and report back on the latest and greatest trends. Keeping up with the newest trends helps me stay current and inspires me to branch out and try new things.

Sweet, right? I'd like to thank Donna for taking the time and trouble to answer all my questions today, as well as thank her for the kind words that she said about me and the Moxie Fab World. And I'm not gonna lie, as an editor who tries to inspire our readers on a daily basis, I find it very gratifying to know that Donna was able to both define and expand her style due to her study of one of our special interest publications. For me, that is quite the affirmation of what we here at Paper Crafts magazine strive for each and every day, and I thank Donna from the bottom of my heart for saying so. :)

Before you go, be sure and leave Donna some love, and let her know how she has inspired you today.

Moxie Fabbers rock!
