The Keen on Neon Challenge

Oh my friends! I've been so excited to bring this challenge to you that now that it's here, well, I am as giddy as all get out! It's been literally 8 months in the making, and believe you me, that's an awfully long time for a girl to wait to share a trend! But here it is, in all its glory, and I tell you what, here at Paper Crafts magazine, we are supremely keen on neon!

Bright and bold, fun and flirty, neon is one hot trend. From fashion to home decor, jewelry to stationery, summer to winter, and everything in between, the nuances of neon come in a rainbow of styles that just might surprise you. Check it:

And lest ye think that neon is hot just in the summertime, see how festive it can be in these super seasonal applications:

Which is exactly what was so fun about tackling this trend for a holiday issue. Just imagine the possibilities when applying this funky color value to Christmas cards! Here are a couple of examples from the issue itself:

Graphic Merry & Bright Card by Laura Bassen p. 32

Moxie Fab Alert: Now that's a play on words--and color! I moxie adore the clever--and effective--approach Laura took to creating a neon Christmas card, don't you, friends?

Retro Peace & Joy Card by Kim Kesti, p. 30

Moxie Fab Alert: In this supah fun card, Kim has used bright cardstock to create one of the sweetest ornaments I have ever seen. And the font she used? It pays brilliant homage to the retro nature of this fun, fun trend.

Hello There Card by Betsy Veldman, p. 31

Moxie Fab Alert: We did throw one non-seasonal card in for good measure, however, and this gah-jus concoction makes me swoon. Neon is so popular these days, Betsy was even able to find some neon ribbon! (Of all things!)

Whaddayasay? Are you ready to tackle this in-your-face trend? Are you up for a bold kind of fun? Do you think you could push yourself way outside your comfort zone and go for a neon holiday project? If so, here's all you'll need to know in order to get started:
  • Create a paper crafted project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor item, mini-book cover, etc.) that incorporates neon in an innovative way. Extra consideration will be given to those who create a neon holiday project.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Keen on Neon Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  • If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Upload your projects by midnight EST on Monday, December 17.
  • The winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, December 19 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as something yummy from my moxie magical prize drawer.
This is going to be SOOOOO fun!

~Cath

I'm lovin' this color challenge Cath! I'm such a traditional Christmas colors person. My walls are even red green and gold. That doesn't mean someone else wouldn't appreciate fun colors in a holiday card! Thank you!

I'm working on my card now! How FABULOUS to use neon for the holidays! Thanks for a wonderful challenge, Cath! I'm assuming the cards have to be new, and created after this was posted?

This challenge was so. much. fun! Thank you Cath. Playing with the neon colors takes me back to happy childhood days in the 80s. Now I am off to tease my bangs with a can of Aqua Net while listening to a Madonna tape on my boom box! :o)
