Holiday Cards & More Week: Wonderful Wrapping & Gift Cards

Who's having fun in our moxitacular Holiday Cards & More Week? I know I am, for what is more fun than perusing the pages of an inspiring issue that is all about the upcoming holidays? As I write this post it's a chilly day, the skies outside are gray with impending rain, and the thought of holing up and creating something special for the people I love with this seventh edition of Holiday Cards & More by my side is about as welcome a feeling as welcome ever gets.

For isn't that what it's all about for us paper crafters? Personalizing a holiday that can get so caught up in the mass appeal? I don't know about you, but I do buy a lot of gift cards during the holiday season because there are some people on my list who are really difficult to shop for. But putting the gift card inside of a paper crafted gift card holder makes it really special. Same thing with gift bags and gift boxes. What a fun way to personalize the holidays!

So let's get to the projects, shall we? Check it:

Snowman Gift Card Holder by Ryann Salamon, p. 120

Moxie Fab Alert: What I love about this fun and cute gift card holder is that the gift card holder is an integral part of the design. It's not just a card with the gift card thrown inside. This way it says, "I made this sweet project just for you." And oh how sweet it is!

Celebrate Tree Wraps by Teri Anderson, p. 113

Moxie Fab Alert: Aren't these little tree boxes just the cutest thing you've ever seen? Perfect for containing jewelry or other small trinkets, these only take 3 steps to complete!

Home for the Holidays Gift Bag by Kim Kesti, p. 113

Moxie Fab Alert: I don't know what else to say about this one except oh my moxie fab!

Whaddayatink? Are these inspiring gift wraps or what? Do you paper craft gift wrap and gift card holders? Why or why not? And/or which of these projects inspires you the most today? Answer any and/or all of these questions by midnight EDT on Sunday, September 23 and I'll draw two random luckies to win a copy of this oh-so-inspiring issue chock full of moxie fab ways to paper craft Christmas!

That's a wrap,

~Cath

PS Be sure and pop by Paper Crafts Connection where the party--and the chance to win--continues!

I have not paper craft gift wrapped or made any gift card holders, but I think it is a fantastic idea and something I am definitely going to give a try! I love the gift bag/box. It is way cute!!

LOVE what these ladies have created. I try and present gift cards in a unique way but again, it all depends on the amount of time I have in such a busy time of year. Guess I really need to start earlier.

Oh Cath, these are such fab projects and they make me want to get crafting straight away! I sometimes make gift boxes and gift card holders. Also I love to stamp plain paper to make wrapping paper and then let loose with the embellishments!

Tanja said...

All three projects are inspiring. I would like to make more gift boxes especially for giving the gift of a set of handmade cards. Little handmade tags are always fun.

I paper craft gift card holders all the time! It's easy to make and it gives that personal touch to a "generic" gift. :)

YES! I DO gift wrap gift cards! It makes the gift MORE SPECIAL! After-all, a gift card just doesn't express the feelings you feel or the effort! Adding that little extra touch DOES! It IS all in the PRESENTATION! My favorite? I like the Celebrate Tree Wraps & the Gift Bag! :)

I only make cards but these projects, particularly the tree boxes, are a great idea for gift cards. Will definitely use that! Another thing I have found difficult to present nicely is magazine subscriptions. I always gift a few. Any thoughts in the crafty community on how to wrap the present?..

I love the gift card holder and boxes! I
make my own packaging as much as possible because I do think it adds to the giving.
I am inspired by all of these projects.

I try to make cute papercrafted boxes for small items. Also, I always try to dress up a gift card by making a personalized holder- I don't like to give gift cards, but making a fun holder makes it more "me."

I made some really cute gift card holders last year. I'll definitely do it again this year. These are great ideas. I especially like the snowman gift card holder.

This is only my second year of papercrafting. What did I do before this? LOL. I may try and make some gift card holders this year, but am also hoping to do a little better on my holiday cards too!

Tina said...

I usually do not make a gift card holder because most of the time the card goes to a teenager, and they never look at it anyway! LOL However, I do like the idea of the triangle boxes. Such a cute idea!

Amanda Coleman said...

I love Teri's tree wraps! I am more likely to make a fun GC holder or box than a tag. They are so much fun!

Linda said...

I certainly make work of giftwrapping my presents. It looks so much more festive when wrapped in shiny christmas paper! Love the tree-boxes!

Mary Mac said...

I love unusual gift wraps, so much more fun than boxes and these work.

candi said...

OMG! These are fabulous! I am most inspired by the gift card holder, I love to find new ways to "package" them!

Bethany said...

Wow! these are really great. I like the gift box the best; the little house is too cute. I really enjoy making my own wrapping paper by stamping on kraft colored mailing paper and making gift bags by stamping on plain kraft or white ones.

Kathy Mc said...

Awesome! Each project is very inspiring and serves a totally different purpose. Those boxes & bags would also make cute decorations. Perfect way to wrap a gift card by displaying it on the card front. Love these ideas!

I love the trees! I do make my own gift tags and love getting plain gift bags and decorating them to match the card and gift tag.

jengd said...

I occasionally make a gift card holder for my mother's JoAnn's gift card (every Mother's Day, birthday, Christmas) but I usually end up just putting it in her card or wrapping it up in a box. A lot depends on the time I have available and how early I remember I have to get her card in the mail. :)

Cat Craig said...

Such fun wrappings. I do like to make cards for holding gift cards, it does personalize it. What a fun post!

Marybeth said...

Love the wrappings, and card holder. Yes, I love to make small gift holders. They are all adorable but I will pick Home for the Holidays.

Carmen Nuland said...

I usually don't think about paper gift-wrapping until the last minute and then I don't have time. I really should make some up during my non-busying crafting months

Judy Tuck said...

I love the projects you have shown for gift card holders. I do actually make cards that hold gift cards for Christmas. I find they are so much more personalized. I even tie them up with a nice big bow!

Lucy said...

What great project ideas! I will do a special gift wrap for a couple of special friends and family members who actually appreciate them and don't toss them in the holiday garbage. I certainly can't pick a favorite. They've all got their place and would be perfect to match different personalities of the recipients.

Helen F. said...

Yes , I like to buy plain kraft gift bags (Target sells 'em) and decorate with stamps, stickers and/or embellishments. I will also add a coordinated homemade card or tag for the gift.
PS: Love these creative wrappings!

Lynne said...

That snowman is so inspiring. I give a lot of gift cards since there's lots of 'I have everything I need' kind of people on my list so I'm always on the lookout for ideas on how to incorporate it into the card. An added bonus is that I have a wonderful card and gift in a very small space which makes transporting everything much easier too.

I like the snowman the best. I am not into decorative wrapping of presents. I get them covered and some ribbon on and that's about it. My mother was the one who did all of the fancy wrapping and I didn't inherit that gene.

Cheryl W said...

Cute, cute projects! I love to papercraft for my gifts, be they gift cards or gift items. If cards, I love to make a special card holder. If not, I like to dress up the package with Cricut cuts and other embellishments. No more plain, old ribbon for me!

I don't give a lot of gifts and seldom give gift cards. But I like to give presents in interesting boxes which I make. I am keeping in mind making a card similar to the snow person one as it would be perfect to give my sister a gift card to her favorite crafting store.

I generally make up my own envelope to fit the gift card in and then I tape it on the inside of the card I am giving but I sure love the layout on the card with the snowman, that is a cute idea for a gift card holder and you can still be giving a card at the same time!

I {heart} snowmen... seriously.. who doesn't? That card/gift card holder is too much... Love those graphic trees of Teri's! I do not craft my gift wrap or tags actually. Might have to give the tags a go this year at least. Our tree is such a conglomeration of ornaments collected over the years and colored lights, that I do use just one wrapping paper to keep the pile under the tree monochromatic!
