Holiday Cards & More Week: Merry Little Tags

It's Day 2 of our week-long celebration of the latest and greatest special issue from Paper Crafts magazine, Holiday Cards & More, Volume 7, friends, and I'm so glad you've stopped by to join me! While yesterday we focused on the Glorious Greetings and Phenomenal Photo Cards sections, today I'm going to show you some moxie fab tags from the issue.

I don't know about you, but I think tags are super fun to create. Maybe it's their size. Since they are so small, the design can be super simple and therefore fast and easy to create. Talk about instant gratification! And let's face it, a tiny handmade tag can brighten up any gift, especially during the holiday season. Check it:

Plaid Santa Tag by Vanessa Menhorn, p. 94

Moxie Fab Alert: Isn't this plaid Santa just the cutest thing you've ever seen? The soft colors and his kissable face make me want to say "ho-ho-ho!"

Coral Greetings Tag by Jaclyn Miller, p. 99

Moxie Fab Alert: I'm not sure a tag could possibly be more elegant, friends. And that color scheme? Moxie to the gah-ah-jus!

Let's Be Merry Tag by Jocelyn Olson, p. 100

Moxie Fab Alert: Holy clean and graphic wonderfulness, Batman! The beauty of this merry little number lies in its simplicity--in the color scheme, in the pattern, in the clean lines, and in its joyful message.

How about you? Do you make handmade tags at Christmas? Why or why not? And/or which of these tags is your favie and why? Answer any and/or all of these questions by midnight EDT on Sunday, September 23 and I'll draw two random luckies to win a copy of this holly jolly issue to ooh and aah over up close and personal!

And don't forget! The party continues over on Paper Crafts Connection with even more chances to win!

Thanks for "tagging" along today, friends!

~Cath

Yes I love making Christmas tags because if you have lots of family and friends to make cards for, then it saves paper and is so much easier to make a tag which I think is just or even more decorative than a card! I love the second tag as it is more my style.

Jen W. said...

These tags are way cooler than all the store bought ones we used to get when we were kids!

Karen said...

Just great tags. I do make some tags for special family gifts if I have time. Often Christmas is such a busy time, it here before I have time to finish getting ready for it. I love all 3 tags but my fav is the last one. It is a classic design and has a nice clean feel to it.

Susan Martin said...

Yes, I do make handmade tags and I love them! They can each have their own uniqueness and I think it is just too simple not to! Just a little extra touch you can add. They don't take much time because of the size. I just love them!

I love the little santa tag!! I LOVE the shape of the tag! and the plaid is wonderful! LOVE IT!

The plaid Santa tag is o cute! Who wouldn't love that on their gift?! I do make my own tags. They are fun to make, and everyone's is different!

Auntie Em said...

They are all pretty tags. I love making tags and start out with good intentions but by the time the rush is on...well...let's just say sometimes and pretty stamp on one side of a piece of card stock, a To: and Fr: stamp on the other and a piece of twine is it! :)

Jennifer Rzasa said...

They are all great, but my favorite is Jocelyn's!

tape said...

I make my own tags because it's fun! Last year my fingertips were a lovely shade of teal for a few days after making the (rather inky) tags. :)

I sometimes do!
My favorite: the plaid Santa...
Cuuuuuute :)

Jean said...

Such cute tags. These look easy enough that I should make some!

Tanja said...

Yes I do make tags, but usually I just throw them together a few days before Christmas. They are fun because they are small and don't require a lot to decorate them. I like today's elegant coral card the best (second one).

Moosisk said...

I love making taqs for Christmas, but usually run out of time before getting too many made. :( I have to make my cards, too, so that's where my extra time goes. Thanks for a chance to win, too. :D

I make homemade tags, I think they add a little extra to the top of every Christmas gift under the tree.

Geri said...

I make all my gift tags each year to match the paper that coordinates with my current chosen color scheme. My family thinks I'm nuts...but I know they appreciate it. I have started writing in pencil so that they can reuse the tags! Cool eh?

I do make tags at Christmas and all year long. They are just fun to make! My favorite is the Plaid Santa, but I really like them all!

I DON'T usually make tags for Christmas, unless they're a "gift!" (To put the gifts they give out) BUT, looks like I'll have to give it a try! I like the "Lets be Merry" tag the most! It's a little more "traditional" with the color. I LOOOOOVE the simplicity & yet it's SOOOOO ELEGANT! :)

Mary-Anne V said...

I love to make tags its a great way to personalize gifts and use up scraps. Wonderful creations on your post today.

Natalie said...

I make some of my packaging and tags but not all - I just don't ever end up having as much time as I would like! The tag I am most drawn to is the "Let's Be Merry" tag. So cute!

Elizabeth said...

I love the Santa tag. I don't typically make tags, although I always think about it when I see them in magazines. I guess I just run out of time during the busy holiday season.

Myoriah said...

I haven't made tags but after seeing those I am definitely going to make some tags. I love the second tag so my style.

Ravengirl said...

I don't :( I should. I like everything to match and I ususally wrap last minute which would mean I was making tags last minute too! Not a good thing for this girl.

Lee said...

I love to make my own tags ! And I love the plaid santa - it does not get better than that! thank you!

Jocelyn Olson said...

Eeek! It is so exciting to see my tag. Thanks, Cath!! Vanessa's tag caught my eye in the magazine--it is so adorable. Jaclyn's color scheme is so fab for Christmas.

Love creating tags for any occasion. My faves here are the elagant tag(so my style) and the clean and graphic which is hard for me to do even tho I love it. I am SO looking forward to this issue!

I like to make tags but I rarely use them because I can never figure out how to attach them to packages. :/ I adore the fat Santa tag!

Nina Yang said...

Tags are my favorite to make during the holiday season! Instant gratification!

Anne said...

I do make my own tags. It is such a nice touch to a gift, small or large. Sometimes I think the recipient likes the tag better than the gift.

jengd said...

I honestly haven't made any tags since we have so many small, pre-printed ones we bought YEARS ago. Great tags here. I have to say I think I like Jocelyn Olson's the most- love that graphic quality.

Barbara said...

Love all the tags but especially Santa. i do make tags for my gifts for friends. My recipients of the age - they want $ or gift cards

Beatrice Lawson said...

Love Jocelyn's gorgeous card. I hand make cards for a few near and dear but I pass on tags. There is just so much to do during the holidays and tags (and wrapping really) are there for a split second before kids just tear it all apart. No point in putting effort into it right now. Maybe in a few years...

Jennifer said...

These are so pretty and fun! Love them. I really haven't made tags before but think I will give it a try this year! Great way to dress up a gift and use up scraps =)

Sue D said...

I love Christmas tags and I have a supply that I look through when wrapping presents but usually do not have time to make them at the last minute.

I usually don't make tags for our family gifts, but I'm inspired this year to have a make and take tag-making Moxie-palousah for the robotics moms and I. We sit and wait for the kids in their meetings, and it will be fun to have something small, easy, and fun to do! Thanks for the inspiration Cath!

Betty said...

That Santa tag is adorable!!! By the time I make all those Christmas cards, it's time to start the thank you cards, and I really don't have the time or desire to make tags. But, who knows, maybe this year, I'll do it, by golly!!

Carol said...

Last year I made sets of handmade tags as party favors at our Christmas party, it was a fun and a big hit!

Love yo make tags for presents! It is fun to personalize the presents you give away. The second tag is my favorite because of the colors! Like these colors!

bzyPTmom said...

I make a few tags, especially for the gifts I give to others. For the gifts for family members, under my tree, I don't make tags as I have a cat who likes to take bows and ribbons off of gifts! Instead I use sticker tags--then at least I know they will stay on the gift.

Heather Maria said...

The plaid snowman is so stinkin' cute!!!

Frozenstamper said...

Such cute tags! My favorite is the Santa Tag. Each Christmas gift I give has a handcrafted tag on it, which is why I seldom send Christmas cards!

Jen Cuthbertson said...

So I have a weird dichotomy - tags are probably one of my favorite proejcts yet I'm always in a rush when I'm wrapping gifts and hardly remember to use them!

Tracey A. in NH said...

Wow...love that let's be merry tag...simplicity is a beautiful thing!

They're all great tags, but I particularly like the Santa one!

I haven't gotten into making gift tags. Don't really know the reason why. Could be because I stocked up on ready-made tags years ago and I feel like I need to use them up.
Love the Santa tag.

Cat Craig said...

I don't make tags, but the inspiration from these beauties...something to think about. The red. White and gray is definitely my favorite.

I like Jaclyn's tag. I really like the vintage look. :)

Bonnie M said...

I don't make tags... too much going on around that time of year, but that snowman tag is too cute!

Helen F. said...

I do make tags for Christmas gifts. It's a 'personal' touch that makes the present more fun.
Sometimes I will use stickers, embellishments, chipboard or those small sized stamps that you don't know what else to use them for :o)

Agata said...

I make some tags but not tons since usually, once the gift is open, they go straight to the bin. And it hurts my little crafty heart just a bit... :)

Cindy C. said...

These Christmas are really beautiful! I don't make much tags, at least in years past; but this year I will making a set for an swap! So thank you for the inspiration, I sure need them!!

Cheryl W said...

I love the little Santa tag for it's homespun merriment, but I also love the last one with its beautiful graphics. I plan to make more tags this Christmas because I think they make a gift so much prettier and more personal.

I do not make handmade tags for Christmas. I feel guilty saying so, but I just feel overwhelmed at holiday time, and this is something I can eliminate from my never-ending to-do list.

Kathy M said...

Last year was the first year I made my own cards. Maybe I will try tags this year, hehehe.
I love them all!

I usually do make tags, as well as cards for Christmas. I may simplify a bit this year and make all my tags the same. We'll see! I love the little round santa tag.

Michelle said...

I do love handmade tags, but I rarely make them myself. Probably because I'm always rushing to just get those cards finished in time, LOL! I love all three tags, but my favourite is Let's Be Merry for it's CAS beauty.

JessicaT said...

I do love handmade xmas tags (the Plaid Santa Tag is my fav of this bunch), but I have never made them, because I know they will only be thrown away with the xmas paper.

Hi Cath,
I love using dies and punches to create shaped tags. That plaid santa is my holly jolly fave! Thankf for sharing!

frommycraftroom said...

All great tags. I probably prefer the last one although Santa is great. Do I make tags - you bet! Why - Well they are so quick and easy - that instant gratification you mentioned - can't go past that in all the rush at Christmas time.

donna mikasa said...

Wonderful sampling of tags! I especially love shaped tags so the adorable plaid Santa has my vote!

Cecilia Hsieh said...

Love all the tags, my fave is the Let's Be Merry tag - something about crisp white and red! I do make tags at Christmas time as I like to add them to all my presents. I'm usually behind in tag making during Christmas as I don't want to wrap my presents until all the tags are done! I also love to add a Christmas bauble or tinsel to my tags. Last year, I found some metal vintage tags and they were perfect as they were flat!

Liva said...

I couldn't imagine Christmas without tags - how would anyone know which present is theirs? My mom made them as well - more simpler, but I have refined this art a bit more :) As I'm more in the vintage stuff, I like the Coral Greeting tag best.
