Moxie Fab Alert: Since hexagons are such a common shape, the trick is to make them stand out somehow. This can be done in a variety of ways, but some options include how they are placed on the surface; how the hexagons are treated with texture, pattern, and/or dimension; the color scheme that is applied; or a combination of all three. In this case, Donna has used a stunningly bright palette of color and pattern which she has offset and repeated in the two rows of hexagons at the bottom of her card. Because her card is clean and graphic, she has chosen a very sophisticated font combination which matches the tone of the design of her card perfectly. And the rhinestone? C'est magnifique!
Moxie Fab Alert: Who doesn't see hexagons and think of bees? I loved seeing all the entries that linked the two elements together, but this one by Cibele knocked my socks off! It's in the subtle shading of the hexagon pattern. It's in the ingenious way she cut out one of the hexagons and put the sweet little bee inside. It's in the treatment of the word "happy" with its subtle swirls. It's in the color palette, so expected and yet surprising all at the same time. But most of all, it's in the cleverness of the implied message--completely and utterly delightful!
Moxie Fab Alert: I don't know about you, but I just want to pull this card up around my shoulders as though it really were the warm, soft, quilt it evokes in my mind. The simple focal point gives our eyes a place to rest amongst so much pattern and color, while the buttons have a dual purpose: they ground the focal point while also emphasizing the home-spun atmosphere that is established by the hexagon background.
Moxie Fab Alert: Oh my friends! I don't know when I've seen a finer example of a masked and misted treatment of a pattern! Just look how controlled the misting pattern is. By using three harmonious colors, the effect is cohesive yet delightful. Note how the intensity of the spray mist increases where the sentiment focal point resides. And the way Alice added the patterned hexagons in a seemingly random fashion to the mix? Therein lies the genius of this breathtaking card!
Moxie Fab Alert: Did you just gasp as I did when you first scrolled down to see this card? This yummy in all its lovely layers is perfectly frame-able. The soft yet rich colors! The interesting elements in all their delicious dimension! The simple grid background which allows the layered design to shine! And the hexagons? Brilliantly placed at the corners of the design to draw our eye inward--to the flower to the bird to the "Sweet" to the rolled flowers and then back in again. This card is very definition of sweet and I couldn't be more pleased to call it a winner!
