The Fascination with Feathers Challenge

TGIF, Moxie Fabbers! I hope you've had a good week! I thought I'd send you off on your way to a fun weekend with a challenge straight from the Moxie Fabs column of the March/April issue of Paper Crafts magazine.

If you're a subscriber, you know that the trend we featured in that issue on pages 30-32 is feathers. And oh la la, are they all the rage! Check it:

The trend gets even trendier when you consider that feathers are at the end of archery arrows, like these:

Take a look at how these talented designers approached this trend for the column:

Feathered Birthday Card by Windy Robinson, p. 31

Moxie Fab Alert: I don't know when I've seen such a gorgeous card, and because they are so popular, feathers are now being incorporated into all kinds of accents and embellishments (these are from Webster's Pages.)

The Sparrow Card by Betsy Veldman, p. 31

Moxie Fab Alert: Betsy took this trend to new heights by expertly stamping with an actual feather! Get outta town!

Sending Happiness Card by Kim Kesti, p. 30

Moxie Fab Alert: In this bold and bright card, Kim chose to focus on the arrow adaptation of this trend as we discussed above. And the sentiment? Just think of all the clever possibilities when you consider the movement of arrows, flight, and the light, "uplifting" nature of feathers in general.

Whaddayasay? Are your ideas taking flight? I sure hope so! When you're ready, here's how to join in on all the fun!
  • Create a paper crafted project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor item, mini-book cover, etc.) that incorporates feathers and/or archery arrows in an innovative way.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Fascination With Feathers Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  • If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Upload your projects by midnight EDT on Monday, April 2.
  • The winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, April 4 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as a truly moxie fab prize.
I can't WAIT to see what you do with this!

~Cath

PS To see two more inspiring cards that feature feathers as their focal points, turn to p. 32. There's one from Go-to Gal Teri Anderson, and another from Maile Belles. And while you might notice that none of the cards in the column incorporate beautiful peacock feathers, that's because we called that trend out way back in the November/December 2008 issue in our article entitled Pretty as a Peacock. See projects from that issue by clicking here. And go here to see the winning challenge entries.

Fun! I actually have very short hair and my hairdresser puts short 3-4 inch feathers in my hair. This month I have some green ones for St. Patty's Day. This challenge sounds fun so I might just have to make the time to participate. :D You can see my feathers on my pics on my FB page - Janet Thompson Sisk.

This challenge spoke to me because we currently have wild turkeys roosting in our very tall pine trees at night. I used real turkey feathers that I gathered from the yard on my card - they are beautifully iridescent & give the card great texture.
