Card Creations: Get Inspired Week--The Pot Pourri Challenge

Have you ever seen a more gorgeous cover, friends? I'm not sure I have in my six-and-a-half years here at Paper Crafts magazine, and I assure you, it's just a taste of all the loveliness you will find on the pages of its folds.

For Card Creations: Get Inspired is chock full of the inspiration you'll need to get motivated to create a card. I mean, just take a look at this moxie fab montage from page 60 of the Pot Pourri section:

There are a lot of points to draw from here, friends. Color, pattern, and texture as well as monogram, doily, and chairs. I mean, the possibilities here are simply endless! Let's see what some of our designers from the issue did with it.

Happy Anniversary Chair Card by Sarah Martina Parker, p. 60

Moxie Fab Alert: Take a look at the inspiration image. Take a look at this card. Fathom its lovely brilliance.

Monogram Card by Chan Vuong, p. 61

Moxie Fab Alert: As much as I love Sarah's take above, I am equally blown away by the unique approach that Chan has taken in this colorful card that incorporates the monogram and the doily pattern. You see, the possibilities really are endless, and that's JUST what I love about the nature of creativity, don't you?

Alrighty peeps, you know the drill. Here are all the deets you'll need to join in for today's particular brand of fun:
  • Create a paper crafted card that is inspired by the image above.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Pot Pourri Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  • If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Upload your projects by midnight EDT on Monday, December 19.
  • The winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, December 21 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as a copy of Card Creations: Get Inspired.
Joyful in anticipation of the possible ways you could go on this one,

Card Creations: Get Inspired Week--The Get Inspired in the Kitchen Challenge

I had so much fun introducing yesterday's challenge to you, friends, that I'm back with another today!

In Card Creations: Get Inspired, the latest special issue from Paper Crafts magazine, we show you images from various aspects of our lives from which to create handmade cards. We begin with fashion, move to footwear and accessories, and then go into the kitchen. We also have a section on home decor, and another aptly named Pot Pourri, because it's a pot pourri--or hodge podge--of moxie fab inspiration.

For today's challenge, I'd love to get inspired in the kitchen. Check it:

I just love the trendy colors and the geometric patterns of these inspiration items, don't you?

And how about these yummies from this motivating image?

So Very Much Card by Kimberly Crawford, p. 42

Moxie Fab Alert: Clearly, Kimberly was inspired by the same things that I am inspired by in this image--the colors and the style. Beyond that, I just love the way she has offset the pattern in the two different colors, adding an extra dimension of deliciousness to her design.

You're Invited Card by Cristina Kowalczyk, p. 43

Moxie Fab Alert: A clean and graphic masterpiece, this card captures the style and color palette of the inspiration item perfectly!

Whaddayasay? Are you ready to give this challenge a try? Keep in mind that even though it's a clean and graphic image, you can adapt it to your own style and have some fun!
  • Create a paper crafted card that is inspired by the graphic plate and glasses.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Get Inspired in the Kitchen Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
Let's get inspired in the kitchen!

Card Creations: Get Inspired Week--The Get Inspired by Fashion Challenge

Hot off the presses, Card Creations: Get Inspired is all about finding inspiration in objects all around you. Its message is: Boost your creativity by relying on everyday items from which to jump-start your mojo.

Whether it's an item of clothing, an accessory, a pair of shoes, something from the kitchen, an object in your home, or anything in between, inspiration is everywhere, we just have to open our minds up to the possibilities.

It works just the same way as our weekly Tuesday Triggers. We show an inspirational image, and projects are created based on that image. Whether you are inspired by the color palette, the style, the the pattern, the texture, or anything else under the sun, the point is to look at the image, see how it motivates you, and create a paper crafted project based on that motivation.

Let's give it a try, shall we? Here is one of my favorite inspirational images from the issue:

...and here are two of the four interpretations from the issue:

Butterfly & Houndstooth Thanks Card by Kim Hughes, p. 12

Moxie Fab Alert: In this gorgeous card, Kim was obviously motivated by the color palette and the style of the inspiration item, and adapted it into something she could make her own.

Shabby Mother's Day Card by Kristin K. Tierney, p. 13

Moxie Fab Alert: The jacket is soft, the card is soft. The jacket is green and cream, the card is green and cream. The jacket has texture, the card has texture. The jacket includes a pearl brooch, the card includes pearl stick pins. Some inspiration items are better than others, and this one seems to be "coated" with them!

Ready? Set! Let's get inspired! Here are the details you'll need to join in on all the fun!
  • Create a paper crafted card that is inspired by the hounds tooth jacket.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Get Inspired by Fashion Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  • If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Upload your projects by midnight EDT on Monday, December 19.
  • The winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, December 21 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as a copy of Card Creations: Get Inspired.
...and this is just the beginning!

Simple Gifts: Setting the Table

An Old Thanksgiving Rhyme
Author Unknown

The year has turned its circle,

The seasons come and go.

The harvest is all gathered in

And chilly north winds blow.

Orchards have shared their treasures,

The fields, their yellow grain.

So open wide the doorway--

Thanksgiving comes again!

I hope your table is set for a beautiful holiday,

Moxie Fabber of the Week: Jennifer Ingle

I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that someone who calls herself "Jingle" is a ton of fun. Take one look at her blog, and you become quite confident in your guess. When I found out "Jingle's" real name, Jennifer Ingle, I not only suspected she was a ton of fun, but I also learned that she is clever, too.

Jingle is all that and more. A passionate paper crafter, she comments and plays and joins and encourages on pert near everything we do here in the Moxie Fab World, and though I had a "sense" of who she was before she completed this interview for me, I can wholeheartedly say that the answers to my suspicions in the first paragraph are absolutely true.

Read on, and see for yourself.

Take it away, Jingle!

What is your full name? What is your screen name? Do you have a blog or an on-line gallery?

My name is Jennifer Ingle, known online as Jingle in most places. I can be found on my blog, Just Jingle.

Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.

I am a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. I am an artist and a crafter. I laugh, a lot.

How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?

I have been crafting with paper since I was a child! I started “officially” scrapbooking when I was in college and that grew into the insane crafting life that I live today. My favorite aspect of paper crafting is the pure energy and joy I get from doing it. I absolutely LOVE making stuff.

What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World?

Well, I love Cath’s adorable personality that shines through the Moxie Fab World and I love the inspiration that comes from this fabulous blog! My favorite features are the Tuesday Triggers and the challenges! I love the inspiration!!!

We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.

Dude. I’m seriously fun. Just say’n.

How would you describe your style? Provide an image of a paper crafted project that illustrates that style best.

That’s kind of tricky, as I dabble in many styles, but lately, my favorites have been on the clean and simple side of life. I just love it!

What is your favorite column in Paper Crafts magazine and why?

Moxie Fabs, of course! I love seeing what people are doing with the most current trends and I love even more that I can then take those and fly with them, making them my own! YAY for fun stuff!

Do you consider yourself to be a card maker or a scrapbooker? If you are a card maker, why do you prefer it over scrapbooking? If you are a scrapbooker, why do you prefer it over card making? If you do both, what do you like about card making that is different from scrapbooking and/or vice versa?

I make stuff. I started as a hardcore scrapbooker. That evolved into making cards, and eventually I got into assemblage, mixed media, art dolls, and all kinds of fabulous mediums. I love paper and I love playing with it. I honestly don’t scrapbook much anymore, but I don’t want to say I never will because I simply go where my creative spirit leads! I just LOVE to make stuff!!!!

Where do you get most of your paper crafting inspiration? Why do you find so much inspiration there? If there is a link, please provide it.

I get a TON of inspiration from regular bloggers who love to craft as much as I do! I also love reading the magazines, including Paper Crafts, of course! New product also inspires me. When I get my hands on some fresh new paper or hot-off-the-press stamps I can’t help but to want to make something fabulous!

Do you consider yourself to be a trend-watcher? Why or why not? Do you feel that trend-watching is important to your creativity? Why or why not?

I hate to admit it, but I am a trend watcher and I fall for those suckers like you wouldn’t believe! HA! Owls? Yup. Love ‘em. ZigZags? I’m all over that one…although, I refuse to call them Chevrons. See more on that in this blog post. Clouds, cameras, silhouettes, baker’s twine, banners, you name it! Yup. I pretty much fall for them all and I fall hard!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I know, right? And I'm not gonna lie, the sparkle, spunk, and special enthusiasm Jingle brings to this little world of ours is one of the highlights of my experience here. And, she ain't too bad at that paper crafting thing, either!

Be sure and leave Jennifer some love, Moxie Fabber style!

Moxie Fabbers rock!

~Cath

Moxie Monday: Alla-Prima from Prima Marketing

You may be aware of my love affair with yellow and gray. It started a few years back. It was the focus of the Moxie Fabs column in March of 2009 as well as a challenge here in the Moxie Fab World, and over time, it has evolved and morphed into a myriad of combinations, all a play on shades of yellow--from chartreuse and gray to orange and gray to everything in between.

When Susan and I walked the showroom floor at CHA Summer, we were struck by additional colors that had been added to my beloved yellow and gray combination, the most striking of which is this gorgeous collection from Prima, Alla-Prima, which adds teal to the mix. Check it:

As if yellow and gray weren't already perfect! If you love this line the way I love this line, leave me a comment by midnight EST on Sunday, November 27 and I'll draw two luckies to drool all over it in person! :)

The love affair continues,

~Cath
