May I have a drum roll, please? Thank you very much.
We begin with this lovely from Julia Stainton:
Sew What's New Card
Moxie Fab Alert: This card is sew amazing on sew many different levels, I hardly know where to begin. If you think about the theme of the challenge--to use sewing icons in an innovative way, Julia has absolutely nailed it. Notice the number of sewing icons on the card, and yet, there aren't too many. From the real pattern in the background to the measuring tape trim, to the fabric swatch, to the scissors, to the button, to the stamped icons themselves, this card screams sewing. And the sentiment? It speaks absolutely volumes in this particular venue.
You're Sew Sweet Card by Lindsay Amrhein
Moxie Fab Alert: In this clean and graphic approach to the theme, Lindsay has taken an extremely popular stamp set and used it in a highly unique way. By showing us just "portions" of each image, we don't feel like we're being hit over the head with the theme. I absolutely adore the color scheme she's used--which is, again, a bit unexpected--and which, in point of fact, makes this card absolutely shine.
Congratulations Card by Valerie Mangan
Moxie Fab Alert: Talk about an innovative use of a sewing icon. Valerie has very brilliantly woven an actual tape measure to create this oh-so-modern and entirely hip card. Moxie love!
You're Sew Lovely Card by Rachael Burdick
Moxie Fab Alert: I adore the simple style of this sweet card. A bit of burlap, a dally of a doily, some bitty buttons, some fun fabric, and a sheer of ribbon--what could be more delightful? How about adding design flow to the mix? Where does your eye go first? To the dress form. Then to the sentiment where the swirl on the "y" takes you to the buttons. From there your eye catches the roundness of the doily and is swept back up to the dress form. The fact that it's all grounded on some rustic burlap ain't bad either--which adds the dimension in this card that is created by all the different layers of texture. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Simple. Stylin'. Sa-weet!
Canvas Album by Tammy Roberts
Moxie Fab Alert: I absolutely gasped when I first saw this project. Now this, my friends, is some chic shabby. Oh my oh my. It's balanced, it's not overdone, and the focal point (dress form) is allowed to stand on its own. Oh yes, there are secondary focal elements, including the white flower and tiny buttons on the right (so sweet!) and the pink flower on the top left (so chic with its pop of color!) But note that they don't compete with the focal point. Rather, they add to it because each serves to frame and guide our eyes right back to the focal point itself. I don't know if shabby is your go-to style, but it's not easy to do all the required layering of the style (it's often hard to know when to stop), and this, my friends, is one of the best examples I've seen in a while. I urge you to click through to Tammy's blog post that showcases this project. You've just got to see the additional pages she's created for the album.
And there you have it, our five winners! Thanks to everyone who threw their hats into the ring. If you haven't had a chance to click through the projects, I encourage you to do so. There's a ton of inspiration, one right after the other!
Winners, please send me your addresses in an email to cedvalson@papercraftsmag.com with "I'm Sew Excited! Challenge Winner" in the subject line and I'll send you your "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button and a moxie fab prize!
I'm sew excited!
