Moxie Fabber of the Week: Sylvia Nelson

Hey hey, Moxie Fabbers! I hope your Monday is plugging right along. I'm excited to present today's Moxie Fabber of the Week post. Oh looky who we have here! Sylvia Nelson has dropped by to share a bit of herself with us! Let's get to know her a little better, shall we? Take it away, Sylvia!

What is your full name? What is your screen name? Do you have a blog or an on-line gallery?

My full name is Sylvia Nelson, I have no middle name.

My screen name is Sylvia Nelson

Craftypj

My blog's name is Sylvia Stamps. It's URL is http://syviastamps.typepad.com and no, that is not a mistake. I was so tired when I set up my blog that I misspelled my name. I decided to leave it and give myself something to laugh about!

Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.

I am happy person, I love to laugh and sometimes take life too seriously. I enjoy blogging and the friends I make. I love the joy creating brings to me, as well as a good challenge, the competition and seeing the results.

How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?

I have been paper crafting since I was five. We had The Book of Knowledge Encyclopedia set that had a paper crafting section. We had plenty of paper and cardboard. I loved to make my dolls' furniture. In college I taught a freshman art class for two weeks, we designed and made cardboard furniture. I love that you can make anything using paper. I started making cards in 2005, joining Stampin’ Up!, after a friend took me to an event 60 miles away. She wanted me to become a demonstrator so she would not have to drive to stamp! Thanks Christina, for always encouraging me.

What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World? What is your favorite feature and why?

I love everything about the Moxie Fab World. It is such a friendly place for bloggers to get together and share our crafting! I really have more than one favorite, but the Tuesday Trigger has to be at the top of my list. I love going each Tuesday and seeing a new photograph. Almost always, the wheels start turning, and I start envisioning what it is I want to use: colors, images, designs. I have learned so much since my first Tuesday Trigger.

We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.

I look for a new way to do something, I go outside of my comfort zone, I do not always succeed, but I love exploring those areas anyway. I have grown a lot because of the Moxie Fab World!

Name a paper crafter who inspires you. Why are you drawn to his or her work?

I love Betsy Veldman’s blog. I love her style and the fun she puts into her craft.

How would you describe your style? Provide an image of a paper crafted project that illustrates that style best.

If I were to describe my style, I would say an expended version of several. I love artsy, I do an expanded version of clean and simple, I am not shabby and chic, although I try the various styles. I guess it is up to you to decide!

Do you consider yourself to be a card maker or a scrapbooker? If you are a card maker, why do you prefer it over scrapbooking? If you are a scrapbooker, why do you prefer it over card making? If you do both, what do you like about card making that is different from scrapbooking and/or vice versa?

I am a card maker, although I occasionally scrapbook. I prefer making cards because I can sit down, design, create, and finish a card in several hours(?), where as finishing a scrapbook, even a small one takes days.

Where do you get most of your paper crafting inspiration? Why do you find so much inspiration there?

Most of the time my inspiration comes from nature. When I lived in Colorado, it was so easy to look around and find something beautiful to use as inspiration to make a card: the mountains, the birds, the butterflies. When I stamp the inspiration comes first from the stamps themselves, then I draw on my experiences and memories. I have lived all over the world so that is the easy part.

Do you consider yourself to be a trend-watcher? Why or why not? Do you feel that trend-watching is important to your creativity? Why or why not?

Absolutely, I love to watch trends. I believe it is important to know what is popular today. Trends go in cycles some things repeat, some do not, but that does not mean I like all that is trendy. I do not believe it to be necessary to be trendy to be creative, but knowing what is out there opens you to more options.

Isn't Sylvia something, friends? What I love the most about Sylvia's interview is that she says she likes the Tuesday Trigger feature the most here in the Moxie Fab World. One of the most satisfying things for me in my roll as host of this blog is watching the card making skills of the people who play here progress and grow. I think that Sylvia's weekly testing of herself with the Tuesday Triggers has definitely helped her card making skills to evolve and deepen, and I commend her for her willingness to stretch herself on such a regular basis. I'm also very appreciative of her involvement in our community--she comments, encourages, and offers new perspectives that I admire very much.

Thanks to Sylvia for being such an inspiring Moxie Fabber! Join me in saying, "Oh hey, Syliva! Thanks for being so gall-durned moxie fab!"

Moxie Fabbers rock,

~Cath
