Stamp It! Techniques Week: The Stamping with Shimmer Sprays Challenge

It's Day Two of Stamp It! Techniques Week, friends, and I'm here with yet another technique-y challenge.

Today we tackle, dun, dun, dunnnn--dye ink sprays.

Now don't get all chicken on me here. Don't shy away, don't turn your head saying to yourself, Not dye ink sprays, Cath. They're scary. I mean, I just don't get those things...and they're so, well, m-e-s-s-y and stuff.

I know. I know. I must admit, I have felt the same way. But just LOOK what you can do with them! Check out these spray-tabulous projects from the issue itself:

You Rock Card by Kris Chirhart, p. 67

Moxie Fab Alert: How cool is that "blast" of color coming out of the skateboarder's ride? How did Kris achieve this "special effect"? She sprayed the inside front of the embossing folder she was using and then ran it through! Easy peasy and clever wever! And yeah, a little bit messy...

Rose for Mom Card by Maile Belles, p. 64

Moxie Fab Alert: And this masterpiece by Miss Maile? Um, yeah, she's hand-painted this rose with her shimmer sprays. (See the step-by-step how-to on page 64.) It just goes to show you, that the application of color via shimmer sprays can be done in oh so many ingenious ways.

Whaddayasay? Are you willing to give it a go? Are you ready to dig deep, take a deep breath, and try something that I know has intrigued you, but you've just avoided it altogether?

That's a good Moxie Fabber. Allow me to shower you with the deets you'll need to give it a go:
  • Create a stamped paper crafted project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor item, mini-book cover, etc.) that incorporates shimmer sprays in an innovative way. For more creative ideas on how to use them, turn to pages 63-74 of Stamp It! Techniques.
  • Upload it to your blog, click on the title of that post, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Stamping with Shimmer Sprays Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  • If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
  • Upload your projects by midnight EST on Monday, March 14.
  • The winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, March 16 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as these moxie fab prizes:
The Mister Huey mists that coordinate with the new Countryside collection from Studio Calico:

The brand new Sprinklers spray mists from October Afternoon:

...and the new Maya Mist colors for CHA Winter 2011 from Maya Road:

I just saw your eyes get all big. I can't WAIT to see you give this a try!

Come on, you can do it!

~Cath

I absolutely love mists! I've used them to add subtle shimmer to a card, create my own patterned paper by masking and have just tried them in embossing folders. I spray my projects inside a cardboard box so that the excess spray doesn't get everywhere.

Tell us about the differences in the various brands/types of mists, please!

Wow! never thought of using mists that way. Thanks for the tips.

Oh, what a FUN surprise to find my card featured here today!! Thanks Cath! For less mess, I too spray inside a cardboard box. And the sprays rinses right off the embossing folder easily. Sometimes it is fun to get messy, and the results are worth it!

Wow! That skateboarder card is great! That look could only be achieved with a spray.

Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [16 Feb 12:00am GMT]. Thanks, Maria

Hi Cath! I took the non-messy path, painted the shimmer mist on with a teeny paintbrush. The last time I sprayed, I had a tie-died beige and blue carpet! Those sprayers can shoot far and in all different directions, but I really like the shimmer effect on my card! Thanks for the challenge.

Thank you for the challenge... I am new to your site and am enjoying playing along with your challenges... thank you....

P.S. Sorry I posted two links on this challenge... I posted the wrong link the first time around... sometimes I get clicking so fast before I know it I've made an error... so sorry!

Thanks for the challenge, Cath. I got some shimmer mists for Christmas and have never used them before, so this was just the nudge I needed. Nothing groundbreaking here, except to dive into an until-now-unused product. :)

I love painting with my mist, it's so soft to begin with it's like instant water color without the water.
