Moxie Fabber of the Week: Lora Dalley

A great big moxie welcome to Moxie Fabber of the Week, Lora Dalley! Let's get to know her better, shall we?

What is your full name? What is your screen name? Do you have a blog or an on-line gallery?

Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Lora Dalley. Online I’m known as Fleur de Lo, since much of what I create involves a flower of some sort. I’d love to get to know you better through my blog, Fleur de Lo.

Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.

Not long ago I asked my close friends and family to describe me using two words. According to them I’m a kind, genuine, outgoing, creative-junkie. Personally I think I’m a bit of a kooky misfit.

How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?

My mother ensured I’d be a paper crafter since my earliest of days. I carved a permanent place for it into my life three years ago when I made a stash of simple, family Christmas cards. I love the process of creation in all its forms. Card making allows me to feel that creative fix while forging connections with others. After all, a card fulfills its ultimate purpose once it is shared.

What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World? What is your favorite feature and why?

For me, Cath’s Moxie Fab World is the mecca of card makers. She has created a cozy place where crafters of all sorts can congregate. My favorite feature: Moxie Fab World Challenges. Both the highlighted trends and the entries of the participants leave me anxious to get on my own moxie.

A recent post that I can’t seem to shake is the introduction to the All Zipped Up challenge. Though I have yet to actualize any of them, this post has dozens of ideas whirling around inside my head.

We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.

One moxie fab trait I’ve strived to cultivate is the ability to see worth beyond the surface. I find interaction with others to be this feature’s most important arena but it can be applied to paper crafting as well, hence my absolute obsession with upcycling.

Name a paper crafter who inspires you. Why are you drawn to his or her work?

Of course there are countless crafters who inspire me! The one who first enticed me and continues to amaze me is the talented Tina Fussell, a.k.a. Traveling Mama. Her work whispers elegance, sophistication and integrity. Her blog invites us all to discover beauty within ourselves, among each other and around the world. Tina is the very definition of moxie fab!

How would you describe your style? Provide an image of a paper crafted project that illustrates that style best.

My style? No question—clean & graphic. The mantra of my life has always been: simplify, simplify, simplify. If only success with such a creed could be expanded beyond paper crafting. :)

Is there a paper crafted project of which you are the most proud or that means the most to you? Include a brief statement that explains why.

Last year my mother threw a big surprise birthday party for my grandfather who was turning 90. She requested I make a heritage album celebrating his life. We spent months gathering and organizing pictures. Each of his children and grandchildren wrote letters of tribute. The resulting album is something I will always cherish.

I'd like to thank Lora for taking the time to answer my questions today. What a delight to get to know her better! I love that she's dedicated to upcycling--and I love how she's achieved this in her card--and Tina Fussel? She's one of my favies as well.

Friends, join me in saying "hello" to Fleur de Lo!

Moxie Fabbers rock,

~Cath
