Moxie Fabber of the Week: Carol Sheetz

A great big moxie welcome to Moxie Fabber of the Week, Carol Sheetz! Let's get to know her better, shall we?

What is your full name? What is your screen name? Do you have a blog or an on-line gallery?

Carol Sheetz
“ScrapMomOf2”
My Blog: Crazy for Crafting

Describe yourself in three short, fun sentences.

I am so lucky and fortunate to be a wife to Dave, a mother to Emily and Jessica, and a crazy crafter! My family brings me so much joy, and I am happy and content in my constant state of imperfection!

How long have you been paper crafting? How did you get involved in paper crafting? What is your favorite aspect of paper crafting?

I have been a crafter pretty much my whole life, but I started with the serious hardcore scrapbooking and card making somewhere around 1998. I totally blame Lisa Bearnson and her QVC presentations for getting me involved in this crazy but totally worthwhile obsession. I am very tactile, so my favorite part of paper crafting is the STUFF! I love to touch it, feel it, and use it on my projects!

What do you like most about the Moxie Fab World? What is your favorite feature and why?

I love being a part of the Moxie Fab World, and Moxie Monday is my favorite! I love paper crafting products! I love new collections, fabulous color combinations, and wonderful manufacturers. Seeing them featured on the Moxie Monday makes me so happy!

We are all moxie fab in our own way. Name one thing that makes you moxie fab.

Wow, I should probably ask someone else this question about me! I guess I’m moxie fab because I know that paper crafting is something that fulfills me artistically and creatively, and I’m lucky enough to be able to spend time creating things that mean something to me and my family.

Name a paper crafter who inspires you. Why are you drawn to his or her work?

I am inspired by so many talented people out there, and it’s very hard to pick just one. I’m inspired by the well-known big names in the industry and by the everyday paper crafter like myself! Someone that really inspires me is Chris Severs. I love her style, and I love her as a person! She is genuine and real and always tells it like it is! She’s also the ultimate triple threat: an amazing scrapbooker, an extremely talented card maker, and her home décor projects are stunning! She has a distressed, grungy, primitive style that is uniquely Chris! I love her work, and I’m thrilled that we “met” over the Internet, and hopefully soon we’ll meet in person!

Who is your favorite manufacturer and why? What is your favorite all-time collection and why? Have you created a paper crafted project using this collection? If so, feel free to attach it.

I love and admire manufacturers so much, and I’m really a groupie of A LOT of them! It’s very hard to pick a favorite, but I would have to say that Cosmo Cricket is definitely a company that consistently thrills me with their amazing collections, and the fact that they are so warm and wonderful to their fans is pretty spectacular too! I feel like I know Julie and Lindsay, and their sense of humor is fantastic! Picking a favorite collection is also difficult, but I have to say that Wanted and Haunted remain at the top of my all-time favorite collection list!

I also just loved the Jolly by Golly collection. In this card, I couldn't decide which paper to use as my card front, so I used strips of a bunch of them! I love the patchwork feel!

Another one of my Cosmo Cricket favorites is The Boyfriend collection. This card is just fun to me! I love that "Howdy" piece that came from the Elements sheet.

Paper Crafts magazine has produced a great number of special issues over the years. Which has been the most inspiring to you and why?

Paper Crafting with Kids is a favorite because it’s the first and only publication where I have a published project!

I also love Paper Crafts Gourmet! I love food and I love paper crafting and combining the two and including recipes? Genius!

Do you consider yourself to be a card maker or a scrapbooker? If you are a card maker, why do you prefer it over scrapbooking? If you are a scrapbooker, why do you prefer it over card making? If you do both, what do you like about card making that is different from scrapbooking and/or vice versa?

I am first and foremost a scrapbooker! It’s my true passion! Card making came about because I had everything that I needed to make cards and I wanted to stop buying them! I remember when I went to my first Stampin’ Up! demonstration. It was at that demonstration that I saw heat embossing for the first time and I realized how amazing card making could really be! A new obsession with stamps and card making was born! I haven’t purchased a card in about ten years! So, I consider myself to be both a scrapbooker and a card maker. When it comes to scrapbooking, preserving our family’s memories means everything to me. I love knowing that one day my girls will own and possess these pages that I lovingly create, and my scrapbooks will live on because they capture moments in time that were definitely worth remembering!

For example, I love this photo of my husband and girls! He's so outnumbered in our house. Even our dog is a girl! He is an amazing dad, and I love this layout that I created pretty much using just paper scraps, but it really came together for me! Plus, it features lots of sewing, which I LOVE!!

Once again, this is a great photo, but more than that, I love my journaling. My girls: amaze me on a daily basis, are sweet, kind, and beautiful, make me so proud, make me smile, make me laugh, and most importantly . . . I am the luckiest mom in the world!

This one is silly. The story behind it is that my husband is the Slurpee man in this house! He takes the girls to get them quite often. While he was out of town, it was really hot, and the girls really wanted Slurpees. So, we got them, and we couldn't resist taking a silly self-portrait that we emailed to my husband. He thought it was hysterical, even though he felt a little left out! :)

Is there a paper crafted project (that you have created) of which you are the most proud or that means the most to you? Include a brief statement that explains why.

My oldest daughter Emily is 14. On her 14th birthday, I gave her an “Emily at 13” book. I created the book to capture the first year she spent being a teenager. I used a teen collection by American Crafts, and I cut a bunch of different shapes on my Expression. The book is very funky, and I love the way it turned out! I created this book for her, because the teenage years are definitely worth remembering. It’s a crazy, busy, and chaotic life that kids lead these days, and taking the time to capture a year in her life was so worthwhile for me, but hopefully so memorable for her! I hope she treasures this book and loves looking at it when she gets older. My youngest daughter Jessica will be 14 in 2011. I’ll be making another book for her!

I'd like to thank Carol for taking the time to answer my questions for this interview today. Carol has been commenting on Paper Crafts Connection and playing in the Moxie Fab World since forever, and I have absolutely loved getting to know her better! I love that she does both card making and scrapbooking, and I am inspired by how completely jazzed she is about these similar crafts that have two completely different purposes.

Join me in saying "hello" to Carol, friends!

Moxie Fabbers rock,

~Cath
