In the latest and greatest special issue from Paper Crafts magazine, Card Style, there are 31 pages of cards representing these layered, soft, old-time styles. 31! Oh my!
What makes a card shabby chic? Well, shabby chic is a style characterized by layering. It is soft, utilizing ribbon, lace, and techniques such as inking and distressing. The final product looks comfortable, weathered, and worn.
What makes a card vintage? Vintage goes a step further by adding old images, found items, and antique trinkets to the mix.
Here are a few of the besties, IMHO, from this stellar issue. Check it:
Thanks for Being You Card by Melissa Phillips, p. 106Moxie Fab Alert: Going down our checklist, this card has it all: layers, softness, lace, ribbon, and inking to create that weathered, worn, comfortable look. Not to mention, it's absolutely sweet as pie!
Old-Fashioned Luck by Cindy Holshouser, p. 124Moxie Fab Alert: In this moxie fab vintage card, I love the way Cindy has used an image that looks old because of the way it's colored. And even though there are many layers to this card, it isn't overdone. Everything is balanced. From the red and white overtones, to the floral accent echoing the flowers in the photo, to the subtle lace, to the fancy die-cut frame with the simple, most appropriate font, there is harmony in everything we see.
Enjoy by Anabelle O'Malley, p. 127Moxie Fab Alert: The layers in this card are elegant, aren't they? There is dimension in this card, but it isn't too heavy--which is a balance that is very difficult to achieve in shabby and vintage cards. The best trick? Anabelle has kept the sentiment super simple--otherwise it would have been completely over-the-top. It's almost as though less is more where there's lots of more. Knowwaddamean?
Dream Big by Danielle Flanders, p. 133Moxie Fab Alert: First of all, the shape. Second of all, the color combination. Third of all, that yummy textured, natural ribbon. Fourth of all, that button! And last but not least, the sentiment that sums up all the alls!
Glittery Hello by Betsy Veldman, p. 136Moxie Fab Alert: Well my goodness it's all here in one gorgeous card. I am absolutely speechless, which doesn't happen often, my moxie fab friends!
