Card Style Week: Let's Do Fun & Cute

Welcome to Card Style Week, friends!


Since Card Style is all about exploring some moxie fab styles in card making, by way of celebration, I thought it would be fun to challenge ourselves to create cards in each of the four styles featured in this moxie fab special issue. So, beginning today and continuing through Thursday, I'll have a new Moxie Fab World challenge in which you can try your skills at creating cards in the fun and cute, clean and graphic, shabby chic and vintage, and classy and elegant styles.

Sound like fun?

Let's begin with the fun and cute style, shall we? What makes a fun and cute card? To begin with--a happy color scheme, a sweet sentiment, and an uncomplicated design. Throw in some whimsy (like cartoons and doodles), a few simple shapes (like hearts and stars), some friendly patterns (like polka dots and gingham), and voila! There's a smile on your face and a song in your heart that's unmistakably fun and cute.

Moxie Fab Alert: Let's go down our checklist. A happy color scheme? Check.
A sweet sentiment? Check. An uncomplicated design? Check. Some whimsy? Check. Simple shapes? Check. Friendly pattern? Check. Looks like we've got us one moxie fun and cute card!

Happy Anniversary by Julie Cameron, p. 16

Moxie Fab Alert: Well my goodness but look at this cutie pie card! The birds are cute, the font is cute, the background patterned paper is cute, the heart is cute. This anniversary card is just dripping with cute, cute, cute!

Cute Cupcake by Tiffany Johnson, p. 13

Moxie Fab Alert: Just like the title says, this is one cute cupcake! The polka dot background, the scalloped cloud upon which the cupcake rests, the stitching in the wrapper, and the floppy icing are all fun and cute elements--but that cutie button serves as the cherry on the top of it all!

Baby Bunny by Julie Cameron, p. 25

Moxie Fab Alert: Aww--talk about sweet! This little baby card looks soft enough to cuddle up with, doesn't it? The starry background is as sweet as a lullaby and that bunny? Let's put it right in the cradle with the new baby it's welcoming!

Friendship by Tiffany Johnson, p. 32

Moxie Fab Alert: This fun and cute card is all about the whimsy. From the doodle-y frame to the swirl-y sentiment to the line-drawn flowers to the hover-y bee to the scrunch-y ribbon--all atop those big, bold polka dots and hon-ey, we've arrived at the epitom-e of fun and cute.

Whaddayatink? Can you make a fun and cute card? Even if this isn't a style you normally gravitate towards, now that you know all the quintessential elements, why not give it a go? After all, it's good to give our comfort zones a good healthy s-t-r-e-t-c-h every now and again. And if fun and cute is your favie style, well now's the time to strut your stuff!

Here's the drill:

• Create a card in the fun and cute style.
• Upload it to your blog, click on your blog's title, copy the URL, and add it to Mr. Linky below.
• Tell your readers that you've created your project for the Card Style Fun and Cute Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and link it back to this post to encourage your readers to play along as well.
  
• If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery, copy the URL to your project, and add it to Mr. Linky below. Make sure you set the security on your photo so that I can copy it. If I can't copy the image, I won't be able to offer it as a winning entry.
  
• Upload your projects by midnight MDT on Monday, August 2.
• Two winning entries will be shown on this blog on Wednesday, August 4 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" challenge winner button as well as a copy of Card Style magazine.
