Let's Have Some Fun With Floss!

PC101. You know it. You use it. You refer to it. You dog-ear it. It's one of your favorite columns. Every issue we take a fun technique or a cool product, and show you out-of-the box ways to do it or use it.

I've been working on the PC101 column since I first started at Paper Crafts magazine nearly 5 years ago. We've covered everything you can possibly think of, and just when I start wondering if we've exhausted all our options, we come up with more. Our January/February issue is no different. On page 24 of this issue, Go-to Gal Kim Hughes has rocked our boats with creative ways to use embroidery floss on paper crafted projects. Check it:

Stitch a design, anything from shapes to words.

Adhere floss directly to cardstock to create a flat accent.

Create a flower by looping floss.

Accentuate floss strands with beads.

Overlap strands to create a plaid background.

Braid floss for textured sun rays or even bird legs.

Ink floss and press on cardstock for one-of-a-kind stamps.

Create lacing with floss and a paper piercer.

Add stiffener to form a unique hard floss accent.

Cool huh? Here's a card Kim made that uses a couple of the above techniques:

Just Because Card, p. 25

Are your wheels a-turnin'? I thought they might be. Now's your chance to wow us with your creative approaches to incorporating embroidery floss in your projects by using these ideas or by coming up with some ideas of your own. Upload your projects using Mr. Linky below by Monday, March 1. If you don't have a blog, post your projects to this flickr group. The winners will be announced on this blog on Wednesday, March 3 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" badge for their blog sidebars as well as a moxie fab prize.

Psst. Know what starts tomorrow? Stamp It! Cards Week. Oh my.

Tying things up,

~Cath

Floss is such a great resource, all those great colors just sitting there waiting to be used! As someone else mentioned, I have my boxes from when I did tons of cross stitching years ago! Love the examples!

Like Eveline, I've got LOTS of floss from a long-ago hobby! This article in Stamp It! had caught my interest and so . . . with the wonderful cards done already, I went for it! Thanks for a great challenge!
