Let's Get Sassy: The Taintor-tude Challenge!

Oh my friends! Can I tell you how excited I am about the next challenge in the Moxie Fab World? I've been like a kid waiting for Christmas until it was time to bring this to you. Are you ready to have some moxie fab fun?

The theme for the Moxie Fabs column in the January/February 2010 issue is Anne Taintor-inspired projects. Now, don't feel bad if you don't know who Anne Taintor is, because you probably do, you just don't know that you do. If that makes any sense at all.

Let me show you what I mean. Anne Taintor is the genius behind these magnets, cosmetic bags, compacts, note cards, and other assorted products found in stationery stores all across America:

I have been a huge fan for years now. I have this magnet on my fridge:

...the 2010 calendar is hanging in my kitchen, and I just uploaded this free image for the wallpaper on my iphone:

Medicated and motivated

There's just something about these ladies from the 50s and their sassy sayings that put an instant smile on my lips:

She could see no good reason to act her age

When considering these biting, smart-alecky, cheeky products, I wonder--why do they resonate with us so? Is it that there's a little bit of all of us in many of these women?

Is it the edgy attitude that these girls have--and wish we had more of?

She could no longer pretend that he wasn't an idiot

She was one cocktail away from proving his mother right

Or is it that they remind us of people we know...or wish we didn't?

High maintenance doesn't even begin to cover it

Has anyone seen my hormones?

Funny...I don't recall asking for your opinion

Whatever the reason, this style is bold, brazen, and trendy, and with the explosion of vintage images on the paper crafting scene, it's easier than ever to create our own Taintor-tude cards. Here are three examples from the column:

Everything I Am Card by Stefanie Hamilton, p. 21

I Like You Card by Becky Olsen, p. 23

Match Made in Heaven? Card by Teri Anderson

For more inspiration, see pages 21-23 of the January/February 2010 issue and/or click here.

Are you ready to play? Load up your appropriate (No raunch allowed!) Taintor-tude cards using Mr. Linky below by midnight on Monday, February 15. If you don't have a blog, upload your project to this flickr gallery and link it using Mr. Linky as well. The winners will be announced on this blog on Wednesday, February 17 and will receive an "I'm Moxie Fab" button for their blogs and a moxie fab prize.

What will determine the winning entries? The usual stuff: good design, great color combos, fine execution, freshness, and wow-factor. But I'll also be looking for sassy, biting sentiments that work well with the vintage images you're using, too. When we were working on this column for the magazine, the funnest part for me was working out the sentiments to go with the images. I just love me some serious sass!

Have fun friends, and remember, trends don't define the paper crafter, it's the paper crafter who defines the trends!

Ready to be Taintor-fied,

~Cath

Oh, this post made me laugh out loud!! So awesome!! I fear I won't do Anne Taintor (or the Moxie Fab World!) justice, but first I must tackle tracking down some vintage images... Thanks!

Ha! I just placed an order for several of her products yesterday! Love her! This is going to be so much fun!

Those are WAY too fun!!
I'll be checking out the resulting projects for sure!

I'm glad everyone's excited for this challenge. Patti--you don't need anything from Anne Taintor to play along. You just need a vintage image of a retro lady that might come on a stamp, a piece of patterened paper, some chipboard, etc. and a sassy sentiment. All of the projects in the moxie fabs column came from paper crafting products that are available in your LSS or online today--making it all the more fun! Good luck and have fun everyone!

I always browse through the stationery isle on Barnes & Noble reading *that* kind of cards. I just love the sassy quotations. The question is can I create one? I'll take the challenge fingers crossed :) Thanks Cath for the inspiration.

I accidentally found your blog and had never heard of Anne Taintor. BUT I certainly identify with the feelings that the images portray, and the tongue-in-cheeky comments. Very SMILE provoking and I needed a smile or two today. Your challenge is over but I plan to keep my eyes open for some of the images and products. Thanks for sharing such a fun topic for crafting. Hugs, Martha from MN

Ooh, I forgot- I have another one too, it says, "Money is meaningless without a woman to spend it!"

This is too much fun. You have to sort of channel your "Inner David Letterman" to get yourself in that sarcastic mood. Or watch Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory"!

This was a real "Blast from the past". I found a magazine with photos from early to mid 1900's and thought "this would make a cool card to enter in the challenge". It was such a fun idea Cath had ~~ I think I'm going to have time to enter a couple more cards :oP
