I've got a quick and fun post for you today. If you've gotten your hands on a copy of our smokin' hot January/February 2010 issue you know that it's just chock full of fun! From valentines for everyone on your list, to stylish vintage valentines, to how to use markers on your cards, to our six Go-to Gals trying a style completely alien from what they're comfortable with, this issue is packed with one serious punch!
In our Five for Friday today, I've chosen five of some of the trendies from that issue. Check it:
Be Mine Doily Card by Heidi Van Laar, p. 65Moxie Fab Alert: It doesn't get much more vintage than using a real-deal doily like Heidi has in this fun card. I love how she's popped the vintage kids up above the doily as well. The big red polka-dots on the tiny blue polka-dots is so old-fashioned in such a good way, and the sentiment stuck into that felt bow with a heart stick pin? Moxie fab! In fact, my mom just loves this card because it reminds her so much of the valentines she used to send back in the day. The superb compliment to a vintage-inspired card!
Love Bingo Valentine Card by Anabelle O'Malley, p. 71Moxie Fab Alert: The trend is BINGO and this is one of the best uses of that type of product that I've seen in a while. The trick with BINGO cards is that they're busy by nature, so in order to preserve them as a focal point, you've got to go easy on the embellishing. The font in Anabelle's sentiment perfectly captures the era the BINGO card evokes, and the fact that she hasn't introduced any additional colors keeps that black heart front-and-center.
Let's Hang Out Card by Maren Benedict, p. 52Moxie Fab Alert: From our marker feature, this card is super trendy because of its use of a clothes line, the big orange-and-white striped bow, and the fresh complimentary color scheme that alllows that sweetie blue to pop! This card is the essence of happy and that's always moxie fab!
Lucky in Love Card by Julie Campbell, p. 46Moxie Fab Alert: One of our cover projects, I love the clean lines in this card. The sentiment paired with the focal point is so clever, the rhinestones in the letters so sublime, and the simple color scheme all on kraft as a neutral? You know it! Moxie fab!
Heart Go Boom Card by Latisha YoastMoxie Fab Alert: Well I've loved these little turtle guys since I first laid eyes on them. But even more than that, I love how Latisha has kept her color scheme simple. The fact that there's no other green on the card besides on the turtles' backs brings your eye directly in to the intended focal point. The addition of the graph paper on the side tying in quite nicely with the bitty letters in the sentiment sets the entire card to moxie fabulousness!
You likey? Believe it or not, that's just a mere taste of the trendy goodness inside the pages of this fun and festive magazine celebrating this season of love. I hope that all y'all get a chance to check it out. In the meantime, I'd love to hear which of these cards you like the best and why, or what other project from the issue speaks to you and why. Leave a comment by no later than midnight MST on Sunday, January 10 and I'll draw a random prize for one lucky winner!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Dishing out trendy treats,
~Cath
