Moxie Monday: Christmas Past from Graphic 45

Happy Monday, friends! I’m glad to be back after a week’s vacation and happy to report that there was no damage to my waistline whatsoever after last week’s feasting! I was able to get in enough exercise to keep the calorie hounds at bay and I sincerely hope that you fared as well! If not, I’m right there poundin’ the ol’ pavement with you as the holidays and their yummy temptations loom!

Speaking of yummy temptations, I’ve got something tasty and delicious for you today. As is the case with many of you, I am a total and complete sucker for vintage images, especially when it comes to the holidays. One look at the Christmas Past collection from Graphic 45 and I am thrust into my grandma Edvalson’s bedroom where she would primp and prime herself for our annual holiday trip to the Bamboo, the Chinese restaurant where my grandparents had courted, followed by a walk through nearby Christmas Village in my hometown of Ogden, Utah.

As we waited for her to put the finishing touches on her ensemble, she would let me pick out which clip-on earrings she would wear, allowing me to touch the vast sea of shiny, shimmering, glimmering jewels in the heavy wooden box that was gushing over with opulently long strings of beads and pinky pastel cameos. When I lifted the lid, it opened up to expose shelves, drawers, and hidden pockets chock full of colorful layers of pins, earrings, hair combs, and rings the size of small birds.

As my fingers precariously landed on every pretty option, she’d suggest colors that would match her outfit, waiting to put on the perfect shade of bright lipstick once the earrings had been clipped neatly in place. When she’d chosen a stole to put around her shoulders, grabbed her gloves and her purse, I knew that it was then that our evening of magic together would begin.

Magic seems to be a befitting word for this collection as well. Check it:

Cathe -

Graphic 45 has the most beautiful and luscious papers. I adore the entire line. The Christmas Past line reminds of Christmas as a child, the bubble lights on the tree, the sparkling tinsels (our tree never caught fire, amazing). All my siblings in the pj's hoping up and down waiting to open gifts, family coming later in the day, the special treats my grandmother would make. Most of all, it brings back memories of my mom and dad, both who left us way too young. Such happy and bittersweet memories. Amazing how much a single line of paper can pull one into the past.

What lovely paper! My mother who is in her 50's is very much into vintage. From decor to crafting she absorbs its nostalgic essence and places it gracefully everywhere...in comes her 28 year old and wonders, "what's the big deal?" I think I am beginning to understand :o) That st. nick and all its loveliness takes my mom back to the kitchen with her mom and all the love that passed through it...it is a feeling and a time you can't help but love!

The paper is lovely! My mother is very much into vintage, from decor to crafting and I asked her what is it about the paper and the images that call out days gone by, and she tells me that it is her childhood, her past and all of the wonderful memories it evokes that make vintage so wonderful! It's like you're in the kitchen with grandma helping her prepare a most delicious meal. And she is wearing her apron of course :0).

This takes me right back to when I was a child lying on my back in my long flannel nightgown under my mom's prized silver artifical tree while it slowly turned and the color wheel changed the color from red to green to blue while the tree stand softly played "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" All the lights in the house were turned off...it was pure magic.

The papers do remind me of my grandmothers, and a project I made as a child. I cut Xmas greeting cards, selecting a lovely scene, glued them onto a wood block, covered with a mod podge type of finish, and then sprinkled strategic parts with glitter. It was so much fun to see grandma display it each year. I had my own kids do the same and we put theirs out each year too!
