A Month from Today! World Card Making Day!

I *heart* World Card Making Day.

Seriously. It's one of my favorite days of the year. And not just because Paper Crafts invented the holiday and not just because I help promote it and not just because we put a lot of time and effort into it as a team.

Those would be good reasons. But nope. I love World Card Making Day because I have a special place in my heart for the handmade card.

There's just something about the thrill of a blank piece of cardstock, an inspiring piece of patterned paper, a length of ribbon, a particularly profound sentiment, an irresistible stamp, a funky chipboard element, or an exciting new technique that exhilarates me beyond explanation.

Whatever butters your biscuit, is what I always say. But I know you know what I mean.

Then it's like solving a puzzle. I have an idea of what I'd like to accomplish in my mind, but arriving at that place takes some delightful planning, a little happy experimentation, and often some frustrating but productive flubbing up before I am happy with the result.

Whatever flies your kite, is what I always say. But I know you know what I mean.

Then, when all the pieces come together and the heavens open up and I know I've hit the nail on the proverbial head, joy ensues.

Whatever floats your boat, is what I always say. But I know you know what I mean.

And that's not even the best part. Not even.

The best part is giving that card away.

Now that really toots my horn. And I know you know what I mean.

That's why I love World Card Making Day. Because it's a day set aside for the whole world to celebrate the joy of the handmade card. The whole world.

Because really, when you think about it, creating and giving handmade cards is what brings all of us together. I would not know you and you would not know me if it weren't for this amazingly connective hobby that we all enjoy so well. And that, my friends, is a blessing that has enriched my life beyond measure.

And I know you know what I mean.

To celebrate, there's a World Card Making Day website devoted to this holiday that includes ideas on how to celebrate, a gallery where you can share your cards with the world card making community, a World Card Making Day Contest where the winning cards will be published in the March/April 2010 issue of Paper Crafts magazine, a section that highlights the sponsors of the holiday, a list of participating retailers across the world, and much, much more.

And you know we'll be celebrating it BIG TIME here in the Moxie Fab World and on Paper Crafts Connection.

Because that really creams our corn. And I know you know what I mean.

But today I want you to think about what World Card Making Day means to you. How will you celebrate the day? What does this hobby mean to you and how can you express that on Saturday, October 3?

Excited to hear about whatever whets your whistle,

~Cath

I'm on the Odd Bird Planet design team and we celebrate by creating cards and offering prizes. There is so much activity on the net by so many companies and forums. Can't wait! I wasn't aware that PC created the holiday. Cool!

I love this day! I use to get together with friends and sometimes go to a local LSS to have fun making cards. We moved out of state and they don't have any fun places here. Can you believe that? I sure can't, anyway I'm planning on making some cards and checking out blogland and joining in on some cyber fun.

Card Making Day means a lot to me! It's a whole day dedicated to celebrating creativity! I would be a boring left brainer without creativity :)

moxie fab world is always a good read, but today, you spread joy! last night, after shouting out to my facebook friends, asking if anyone else was a cardmaker, i found 2 ladies who weren't, but wanted to be. they both live an hour and a half away from me, but, would you believe, on the same street! so, for WCMD, i will travel, with a TON of supplies at hand, and lead a cardmaking how-to--fun stuff, this hobby of mine! thanks for a great posting i can point them to this morning! ~k

My new SB group usually meets on that date, so I'll tell them about it and hopefully they'll be excited about switching gears and making a ton of cards!!

I'll get together with my card making friends and we'll make cards together, share ideas, and have a ball. Sending handmade cards to family, friends and causes makes such a difference in my life.

I believe people still enjoy getting a letter - and a home made card with a note is the best - I make it a point to get cards out as often as possible to loved ones - so World Card Making Day - is my day! it is something I believe in and do!

As our world moves more and more into email, internet, texting...it seems like World Card Making Day should gain greater importance. There is just nothing like finding a handmade card in your mailbox. I'm planning on spending all weekend in my craft room, coming up for air to check blogs, and maybe trot over to my LSS to meet some new folks and share in creativity.

I LOVE World Card Making Day because it's a celebration of the creativity that lies within each and every one of us!! With the hectic pace of life these days, the handmade card is all the more special!! I love hearing/seeing people's reactions to the cards I give them!! It warms my heart!! (and sorry to say, Hallmark, but you just don't get the same response...:)

It gives me a chance to enjoy a lot of inspiration, and have a lot of fun....plus I enjoy it all year long as I send out the cards I made on that day to their lucky recipients...and that butters my biscuit.

I think I'll use the day to make cardsforheroes.org...yeh - I better put it on my calendar NOW.
Thanks for the reminder.

I just started making cards a little over 2 years ago and when I found the World Card Making Day in 2007, I thought that was just the coolest thing in the world - and still do. I am getting together with a group of women and we're creating 5 different cards in celebration of the day! My whole life has changed for the better since I entered "cardworld", as my husband calls it, and my skills and desires to create have expanded to include different types of papercrafting (scrapbooking, altered items), which has further enriched my life!

I just found your blog today, and this post made me chuckle. I love cardmaking, but love scrapbooking even more. Your post did send me back to my studio to do a few more cards. I look forward to following the "going-ons" here.

I will be celebrating WCMD with different design teams I'm on and with MFW and PC. I'm looking forward to the contests and fun leading up to it!! :D

Your post was a BLAST Cath!! I just {heart} you! You make me smile!!

I'd love to spend the day making cards, or a bit of scrapbooking too. The best would be if I could "infect" someone else with my enthusiasm for paper crafting and join in.

I recently wrote on my blog how card making and rediscovering my love of craft helped me fill that creative void left behind when I stopped working on films.

I'm a creative person and need that outlet. It's a bit of a sanity thing really!!

I'll spend the day making Christmas cards that I'll post to my grandparents so they can mail them out at Christmas time.

This year, on world card making day, we have a christmas card-making workshop at my house. MY SIL is conducting it and there will be ten of us getting a head start on our christmas cards!

This will be my 1st year celebrating this very special day. I just began making cards -I'd rather say creating!- less than 5 months ago. Cardmaking has shown me that I can actually create things. That I enjoy doing so. That it doesn't save you a lot of money like people thinks, lol!!! And specially, it has kept me sane during the two years we've spent in Uruguay for laboral reasons and with me staying at home for first time in my life.
That day I'll also celebrate having met a great bunch of fantastic people that shares my interest. I'll celebrate inky fingers and gasping at pretty paper. I'll celebrate being a bit poorer but also a bit happier :D

Even though I don't get together with anyone to make cards on this very special, I still use this day to make my Holiday Cards. It's a tradition I hope to pass down to my DD & 2 GDs...someday! It helps me be sure I get them done on time too...no procrastination!!

I'll be participating in several activities on the Internet for that day!

Boo hoo, I will be looking after my kids all day so very little card making time for me on this year. But it is a great thing to celebrate!

It's like the New Year's Day of cardmaking, KWIM? Hee! All of the activity online, it's a Rose Bowl parade of people being creative and posting their best projects!

A hilarious as well as touching write-up.

Not to sound boring but honestly I'm not sure how would I celebrate the World Card making day. For me every day is a card making day; if I'm not making cards I'm think about what to make next :).

I belong on some design teams and I hope that we'll be celebrating on those. I'll definately be putting bugs in ears if they're not.

As for me, I'll be making cards, of course. I might set the day aside to make the cards for mu s-i-ls Christmas present. But I'll definately be making cards.

Blessings,
Christine

This will be the first World Card Making Day that I will be taking part in. I plan on making tons of cards that day. Not sure if I'll go somewhere or just stay at home and craft. No matter what I do I can't wait

Making cards means personalization and creativity to me. I love that I can customize a card for someone I love to be specifically for them. And I hope that they appreciate the time and thought I put into the card for them {my wonderful family always does.}

I like making cards. I like that there is a card making day to. promote this hobby but I do not celebarate card making day in any special way. I usually just bring out my supplies and have a fun time making cards with my kids. And this I do even on non card making day .

It is so nice to have a day to Celebrate Card Making! I think my daughter and I, will have a little girls night on that night, with lots of card making! Maybe even making our Christmas cards! :)

After helping my kids make a few cards, I'll lock them out of my crafty space and make a few of my own to send out. I find if I do something with them first, they're more likely to give me some alone time. ;)

I plan on it every year (well for the past few years at least) and it's a time for me to get together with friends and rock the day out having a blast making, sharing, laughing, creating, eating, AND planning our next get together!

I have been celebrating World Card Making Day since it's inception. I use it in celebration of my birthday (Oct 6th). I spend the day preparing my MANY Christmas cards I make and send out every year...I'm already giddy with expectation! Card Making is one of my passions that I love to share. I'm planning on having a few friends over to help me celebrate!
