Valentines Week Day 2: A Volume of Vintage Valentines

In Day 2 of Valentine's Week, we're going to take a trip down Memory Lane, and visit the vestages of vintage. Whether you're young or old, modern, retro, hip, or classic, vintage never goes out of style--and right now, vintage is as hot as ever! And while you can find a vintage spin in all areas of design--home decor, stationery, fashion, jewelry, furniture, and scrapbooking--there's nothing quite so sweet as a vintage Valentine. These innocent creations remind me of a simpler time when traditions were honored, values were steadfast, and sweetness was the sentiment of the day.

From Vintagebella on Etsy:

Heirloom Rose Cards

Could you arRange?

And from Digitalscrap on Etsy (all from the Vintage Valentines Postcards CD):

Don't these just make you smile? I love visiting this style because it evokes such a sweet, innocent time, don't you?

What do you love about vintage Valentines? Which of these appeals the most to you and why? Leave a comment on any one of the Valentine's Day Week posts and I'll select 5 winners at the end of the week for a prize--that's in addition to any other prize being offered, like the Moxie Monday giveaway yesterday. Psst...that means the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. Limit one comment per day. Make sure you comment by Sunday, February 15 at midnight MST to be eligible.

I *heart* Valentine's Day Week,

The forget-me-not card is so beautiful, but I love the giraffe and rocketship valentines because they remind me of the ones my mother pasted into our photo album when I was young.

Vintage is always in like you wrote. I loved the range and neck ones. Like the little puns. Too cute. The details made on some are so gorgeous!

I like the space-themed one. This year I made a space-themed Valentine's Day card for my hubby (complete with "I'm over the moon for you" sentiment) because it speaks to his nerdy space-geek side. I can't wait to give it to him!

I love the valentine with the stove because it is so original to me and I love puns so I thought that was so cute. For that same reason I also love the space girl and the giraffe as well.

I'm not into the images that have such a Victorian / ornate look to them . . . I love the retro ones! I mean, look at that range! How cute is that? I also love the Scottie dogs, the rocketship, and the giraffe! Valentine's Day is very fun!! I just LOVE it!!

I love the SPACE valentine. Too darn cute! I love vintage! I was lucky enough to come across a huge scrapbook (not the new ones, the old ones where they pasted photos) that was stuffed with hundreds of antique greeting cards from the 30's and 40's. All of them had letters written on the back. I bought the whole thing for $10. What a deal! They are so much fun to read and look at. Many have the old glass glitter that has such a nice patina on it. And the letters on the back are like a trip in a time machine, describing everyday life, family coming home from the war, farm life etc. I cherish them. Still loving this most excellent blog. Happy Valentines day!

I just love vintage because it takes me back to a time when things were simple and things were so easy. I especially love the Necks Time, reminds me of valentines I used to give out when I was a kid!

I love the girrafe, it made me think of school days. Now they are ugly like Ninja turtles, and batman!
But the colour combos are interesting, it seems almost like the more the better, no matter what shade.

My mother always said I had an old soul and I think the reason being is that I am a deep thinker when it comes to setiments. I LOVE vintage for this reason. Everything was so deep, true, and heartfelt. I adore the first set from Vintagebella. The scalloped edges are so pretty!

Thanks!

There are 2 favorites for me: The forget-me-not, because it is so realistic and calls back to lost sentiments (how many would have known that the flower was a forget-me-not, had it not been mentioned?); and the "arRANGE" one, because it reminds me of the ones I gave out when my age was still in single digits (with the puns I didn't understand!)

Superwoman Scrapper said...

I love the aged paper on these vintage valentines.

I love vintage cards and postcards. The sentiments on the Valentines from long ago are so honest and full of emotion - for a "stuffy" period in history, they certainly laid it all bare with their cards! So my favorite is the blue floral heart with the bluebirds on the inside. Amazing.

Debbie said...

The valentines which I loved the best were Halo Angel,Space in your heart, and Necks Tim. They took me back to my childhood where my sister, brother, and I would have our pack of valentines. We always had such fun with them.

I love vintage valentines because of the quality of them. Also they make me wonder the background behind the card. I always make a valentine for my special girlfriends and make the card theme fit our relationship. This year I used copies of Vintage Valentines in the card. I feel it is so important to tell everyone who is special how much you love them

My husband is so sweet. He keeps all my cards I have made him.

My goodness I talked a handfull today

I also think the one with the range is clever but I just love the vintage look of it.
