A Challenge That's for the Birds

I don't know what it is, friends, but I'm pretty sure that my mind is going to the birds.

It could be the coming of spring. I saw the season's first robin the other day, the surest sign of spring that I know.

It could be that. But trust me, this is something that I've been noticing for a very long while now.
Why, it was in the March 2007 issue of Paper Crafts magazine that we did an entire feature on birds. And they're still going strong.

Sure, they've morphed. From yer average ol' blackbirds and sparrows, to owls and then peacocks, and now I'm seeing pheasants come to the fore. One thing's fer sher, though, they've been around a long time and I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.

Thing is, now I'm noticing the trend develop unmistakably from the birds themselves to the spaces they occupy: houses, cages, wires, the sky, branches, and of course, trees and the nests in which they rest.

So, for the next Moxie Fab World Challenge, I thought we'd focus on a longstanding trend, birds, but let's put them in their place. ;)

Here are some images from Etsy to get your wings flapping:

Whaddayasay? Do you think you can create a moxie fab project that puts birds in their place? I'd love to see your creative adaptations to this theme. I love that it also allows us to collectively celebrate the return of spring! Here are the rules:
  1. Create a paper crafted project that incorporates a bird of any type, but it must also include a "space" in which one is likely to find birds.
  2. Upload your project to the Moxie Fab World Group by following these instructions exactly. Label your project For the Birds.
  3. If the CK Media website is wonky when you upload, post the project to your blog and leave a comment on this post giving me the specific URL to your project OR send me an image of the project at cedvalson@ckmedia.com
  4. Your project must be uploaded by no later than Monday, March 9 at midnight MST to be eligible to win a truly moxie fab prize. I'll be looking for best efforts in all the different birdie environments as well as most creative use of a bird in its element.

Ready for some more fun? How 'bout we delve deep into this Moxie Fab World and leave a comment answering one of these questions by Wednesday, February 25 at midnight MST:

  1. Why did the birds take the bicycle and where are they taking it?
  2. In "Can You Keep a Secret?" what secrets do the birds wish to tell?
  3. To whom is the bird taking the post card and what does it say?
  4. What book is the bird on the wire reading?
  5. What are the birds on the wire looking at the sunset talking about?
  6. What other backstories can be told from any of these images?

I'm thinking that the birds in "Rosa" are planning a moxie fab garden party replete with banners, Japanese lanterns, oilcloth tablecloths, and cucumber sandwiches with birdseed crusts, all while dancing to a little Michael Buble.

I have such fun in the Moxie Fab World, don't you?

See you soon!

~Cath

Wow these are some fabulous, inspiring images.

To whom is the bird taking the post card and what does it say? The bird is taking the postcard to you, Cath and it says "Make Tonya's day, by picking her to win a Moxie Fab prize!

Love, The Moxie Fab Fairy"

Have a super day! >:0)

What book is the bird on the wire reading?

He is reading a "people watching" book and trying to identify different types before he decides whose head he's going to swoop down and poop on

In "Can You Keep a Secret?" the secrets the birds wish to tell is the number of Valentine's chocolates the woman birdkeeper ate! She has the look of chocolate-induced guilt to me! :o)

5. What are the birds on the wire looking at the sunset talking about?

Well Cath, I've a little story for your challenge!

Man Bird: Oh, this is so romantic! How perfect could it be with us sitting here watching the sunset?
Lady Bird: Shhh.... This is indeed a perfect time! There's that lady below reading some Paper Crafts magazine!
Man Bird: Pouting (jealous)
Lady Bird: Aaaw... sweetie, I'm having a crafter's block and I needed to get ideas from Paper Crafts magazine so I could make you a card for our anniversary!
Both birds: Kissed

I know it's corny... But I hope it made you smile!

The first thing that popped into my head is "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe!

I love bird themed products! I'm glad they're still going strong! What's better than birds with spring so quickly approaching? What fun!

The birds In "Can You Keep a Secret" are talking about on whom they would like to poo. I swear birds must plan this stuff out. I think it's their take of which celebrity would you like to kiss.

I love that birds on a wire painting. That would be something I would put up. As to what they are saying...well, when I'm sitting there with my other half looking at a beautiful sunset, just being there enjoying the experience together is wonderful, but some of those soft spoken words whispered into the back of my hair is nice too. Have a beautiful day!

The bird is reading a book about cars. He is trying to figure out how to get rid of those pesky, flightless birds.

I think that the reading bird in "Birds on a Wire by barkingbirdart" has eaten a mess of bookworms. You are what you eat, you know? :-D

I took the "Birds in Space" theme literally. Though I realize that wasn't the intent of the challenge, I thought I'd share my card anyway.

I'm having a bit of trouble with uploading to the site, so here's a link to my blog.
