When they walk into a room they are a whirlwind of enthusiasm, positive energy, witty sarcasm, and smiles all around.
Julie says, "We started Cosmo Cricket because Eric and I always wanted to work together...mostly because we are insane. So, when the opportunity came about, we jumped on it. To further torment ourselves, we brought in Lindsay Moore as our partner. It has been painfully fun ever since."
Like I said, you always get a sharp wit and loads o' fun whenever you're around the Comstocks.
What I like about Eric, Julie, and their amazing products is that they are always ahead of the trends. Take their line, Honey Pie. It came out way before the homespun, cross-stitch look was in the mainstream.
Megan from the Honey Pie collection

Klara from the Dutch Girl collection
Yes and no. Eric and I prefer to start trends, but at the same time, we are always watching for trends so that we can give the consumer what they want. When we notice trends, we try to approach them in a creative, fresh, Cosmo-Crickety way.
Where do you find trends?
Eric likes to look at magazines and websites. I tend to notice what people are wearing and buying.
Name a designer in the scrapbooking industry that inspires you. What do you like about his/her work?
Mine would be Natasja Verbeek. Natasja is on our design team. I picked her because her style is a bit messy, collagey and layered. She is very creative with an excellent sense of design. Eric follows designers in other industries. His all time favorites would be Charles and Ray Eames.
Where do you think trends get started and what propels them once they do?
Eric and I agree that as far as design trends go, we think surface designers, whether it’s fabric, dishes, or paper, are feeding off each other. When someone comes out with something popular, other people notice. Some knock it off almost exactly while others try to put their own creative twist on it. Either way, we are all watching each other, inspiring one another and influencing one another.
...and bed sheets,

If I didn’t have to worry about whether my art would sell, I wouldn’t worry one bit about trends. I’d just do what I like. Mostly I do that anyway, but there are some designs that I know aren’t as marketable, so even though I think they are fabulous, they never make it out of my computer.
Like Natasja’s work, layering, messy painting, collage-type layouts are trendy. I see a lot of artists that are much less structured than what I’ve seen in the past. They seem more creative and less concerned with rules. There appears to be a movement toward free expression of one’s ideas. These artists might use non-traditional paper crafting products like cardboard, duct tape, etc.
My favorite medium is a bit complicated because it is mixed. I love to paint over pumice gel with acrylic washes that have been mixed with retarder so that they stay wet longer. This technique lets you build up color gradually and even wipe it off if you want. I love it. You can get a translucent sort of feel. Eric’s favorite medium is Adobe Illustrator and I’m thinking about getting him a Wacom Tablet for Christmas. Shhh.
What is your favorite part about your jobs and why? What is your least favorite part about your jobs as and why?
Eric’s favorite part about his job is working with me, of course. Just trust me on that one…no need to ask him about it. His least favorite part is dealing with the business side of things because it takes him away from designing. My favorite part is concepting new ideas. My least favorite part is setting up the trade show booth. Actually, taking it down is even worse.
Name some doors that have opened to you as a result of being connected to the scrapbooking industry and what that has meant to you.
Well, it was always a dream of mine to have my own line of fabric. I actually never scrapbooked before Cosmo Cricket, but I sew most of my skirts that I wear at the shows. So, fabric was a big deal for me. I think for Eric it’s been the opportunity to create this company and watching it become successful.
Once you spot a trend, do you have a way of filing that idea away for later use that works for you?
Do the evolving trends change your style, or do you inject the trends into your already established style?
Our styles are changing all the time. We are being influenced by everything around us from music, political movements, color preferences, fashion, even each other. You never know exactly what is going to spark your next idea. Usually, we start by come up with a concept for a line like camping, robots, western, etc. Then we decide which design style and colors represent the idea whether it’s formal and classic, vintage and subdued, grungy and bright, etc. Then we start with drawings and pattern ideas. I think we work this way from being in advertising. You have to start with what you want to say and then figure out how to say it.
I would like to thank Julie for taking the time to provide me with these answers and all these images, and I would like to thank you for joining me here in the Moxie Fab World today. Oh and by the way I just happen to have a Mr. Campy Crafting Kit and a brand new, hot-off-the-press Chemistry Crafting Kit (perfect for Valentine's Day projects!) that I'd just love to give away to one of you. See you again in the Moxie Fab World, but until then, breathe. Just keep breathing. :)

I love, Love, LOVE Cosmo Cricket. They are one of the few companies out there that truly come out with lines that are different from each other...each line has it's own flair and personality while absolutely being Cosmo! They are great designers. smiles...
The thing I love most about Cosmo Cricket is the "aged" look you have on your papers and also love the journaling cards with each line, I always look forward to your new releases!
Cosmo Cricket always seems to be ahead of the curve. They're all enthusiastic when you visit them in their booth at trade shows and are always willing to show you how to work with their products. I'm especially excited that they have entered the fabric world because now I can incorporate both paper and fabric into projects. Jitterbug was a great fabric line and Hey Sugar is going to be just as fun! I love being able to make a tote bag as a gift and then tucking in a coordinating journal from the paper line as an additional surprise.
I just LOVE Cosmo Cricket!! Ever since the first time I saw a line of their papers I just knew it was a perfect fit for my tastes. Alittle grungy, a bit shabby, not too bright... just perfect!! Thanks so much Julie and Eric for a company were I can count on loving each and every release.
Fantastic article!! I've always loved Cosmo Cricket products. They always seem to be ahead of the curve with themes and designs and I love the distressed yet modern look. I always look forward to seeing what CC comes up with next.
What an interesting article! I actually enjoyed reading this one ( yeah I admit I have only "glanced" at other featured artist and their comments) this one was very entertaining. I love the humor and their styles really speak to me. I too love the layered, campy mid century, messy anything goes approach and I sincerely hope it is a lasting "trend".

Cool! I cannot imagine a better dynamic duo to feature on this blog! I just love Cosmo Cricket! I love visiting their blog too! I'm telling you, Mr. Lindsay is hysterical! Anyway, what do I love about Cosmo Cricket? Well, honestly, what's NOT to love? Double-sided lucious papers and designs, fun elements, and BLACKBOARD! I guess maybe the Blackboard is my most recent favorite and addiction! Haunted is probably my most favorite recent line (Mr. Campy, Hello Sunshine, and Oh Joy too!) I guess I'm just a huge fan, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us! Thanks for the awesome feature Cath!! Happy Holidays!
I love Cosmo Cricket's colors and patterns! I am really excited about their new Chemistry line! It was nice to get to know a little more about the fabulous husband and wife team behind it all!
Fascinating article. I really enjoyed learning more about the company and the Comstocks. The pictures were very inspiring.
Fabric! I didn't know there was Cosmo Cricket fabric!!! Have I been living under a rock??? Now I *need* to make myself a skirt - pronto.
What I love best about Cosmo Cricket is they make me look good. The products are so fun to work with and the end result looking great is almost a sure thing.
I also love how the releases from a few years back continue to look fresh and are still fun to play with.
Great interview! It's always neat to see the people behind the product.
Cosmo is one of my top 5 favourites...
Mr. Campy is the most fun I've had with paper EVER. I just love the "fun" factor in their lines :)
Thanks for the insite :). I met Julie and Lindsay at ScrapFest in Minneapolis earlier this year and can see their excitement and crazyiness. The fabric is growing on me more and more and I'm thinking blankets and much more for my daughter is in store!
CC has always been on the top of my manuf. list and there isn't a product line that I don't love.
One (as you know, Cath) of my mostest favoritest lines. I'll have to meet Eric and Julie IRL, for sure. I'm sensing kindred spirits.
Great article! Honestly, I'm just a fan of great paper. =)
I love that your paper lines always come with strips. I'm a linear kind of girl so I use them a lot.
It's really neat to see how they are inspired :) I love Natasja's work! I'll be stuck on her blog awhile ;)
I absolutely LOVE the Mr. Campy line. The colors are wonderful. Thanks for showcasing these great designers.
I love EVERYTHING about Cosmo Cricket products. I love the colors, the patterns, the feel of the papers. I love the blog. I just love love love love love Cosmo Cricket.
I LOVE Cosmo Cricket's luscious papers and blackboard. Very hip, very trendy, very fab!!!!!
I love Eric and Julie...their blog always makes me giggle and their designs are my absolute favorite in the scrapping world! Keep up the good work you guys!
I love that their products are a collaboration between husband and wife.
What I love about Julie & Eric is their style and wit.
What I love about Cosmo Cricket is style, color, and all the die cut pages.
Can't wait to see what you release at CHA Winter.
Sherry
Great interview! Interesting and insightful. I think Eric and Julie would be fun to be around, and I am a huge fan of Cosmo Cricket. My favorite from past lines would be the western-y papers in the "Wanted" collection. I love Mr. Campy - what a great product for using with our RVing photos! Thanks! I can't wait to see the next trend! (chairs might be kind of cool! LOL!)
I just love that it is unique and different. I remember when I first saw the company in the store and there really wasn't anything like it.
I first became acquainted with Cosmo Cricket on QVC. I purchased Cosmo's "today's special", and loved everything I received --- and it was such a value. I since have purchased almost all the papers they have come up with. I enjoy their blog --- everyone there has such a great sense of humor.
Thank you so much for this interview! I love COSMO CRICKET and enjoy reading their blog as well. Everyone at that company seems to have such a great sense of humor and the product lines they come up with are ALL so wonderful. I must say that Mr. Campy was one that JUMPED out at me though. I was at my local Scrapbook store trying to hunt it down before it even came out. LOVE LOVE LOVE that line and all the rest. did I say that all ready?? ;)
Great work Julie and Eric, keep it up! It's so wonderful to be doing something you love.
I love Cosmo Cricket & their blog! They crack me up!!! Thanks for the link for the fabric too! I've been trying to find it for weeks!!!
Julie and Eric and Mr. Lindsay keep a very fun blog and are very generous with giveaways!
The Lines from Cosmo Cricket are the best. They keep out doing themselves every season. There's is the stuff I NEED first following CHA:) They are just ahead of the times!
I love Cosmo Cricket and I met Julie and Lindsey at Scrapfest and can say without a doubt they are exceptional people. Five minutes with them and you can see what kind and beautiful human beings they are. I try my best to support a company when I believe in the people running it. I loved this article too. Thanks for sharing it with us.
There are few companies out there that absolutely "turn my crank" and Cosmo Cricket is one of them. I just LOVE Cosmo style--everything about it is fresh and fun, grungy and clean--it is harmonious (is that a word?). Cosmo Cricket is my perfect chemistry!! Thanks for the chance to win and thank you for the opportunity to get to know the genius behind this extraordinary company.
I love Cosmo Cricket products! They give me a very "homey" feeling. I especially love the journaling sheet in each collection. Thanks you for such wonderful products.
What a great look into their fun, creative minds! Thanks, Cath! What I love most about the papers are the fantastic colors, but what I love most about the Comstocks is their wicked humor!
What a fabulous interview! I am a huge Cosmo lover! :-) They are just the sweetest and most creative crew! :-)
udsmsmsWhat I love about Cosmo Cricket is the great variety of themes they design and the COLORS they use~wow! I love the vintage feel and distressing on some lines and the reto/hip feel of other lines... and they are ALL COOL! I love the heavy weight and double sided pages MOST of the time... sometimes I like both sides so much I don't want to use the paper~THAT is a problem!
What I love about Eric and Julie is their sense of humor~they are so fun! The names they give the paper lines... "Halfway Cafe" has papers named after towns in the song "Route 66".... with every line they have a "Strip Tease" (gasp!) no, it's a collection of all the designs from the line on one paper~LOVE IT~and the journaling cards? LOVE!! Anyone that puts "Acid Free. Lignin Free. Fat Free. Sugar Free. " has a great sense of humor.... they are a great team!
Love their products and blog!!
I just love their lines. They are super awesome and they are almost always what I'm looking for in the paper realm. Great job on making such fab products!
Cosmo and the Comstocks are wonderful. I love the different approach they use that's different than any other company. It's very inspiring. And they sure are fun people.
Julie and Eric's ideas are never-ending. They've ALWAYS got something new to share.... it's freaky, really.
I love Cosmo Cricket. I teach a class using Hey Sugar on an acrylic album that people always rave about your designs at! Keep it up! Love the robots, too!
Cute look to the papers and love the color combo.
This was a great article. I LOVE all Cosmo Cricket products. They are always ahead of trend and I adore the distressed look to their papers. I also love that they now have a fabric line. I can't wait to start a mini quilt with it!
Thanks, Cath for the great interview. Cosmo Cricket it my favorite scrapping goods company. I love the sense of humor that's present in all their lines; after reading this interview and their blog I see where that comes from!
I love Cosmo Cricket because they have unique style. You can spot a CC design from a mile away, and it's always great.
Love Cosmo Cricket! Thanks for sharing a little more about yourselves and the fun that makes up these incredible products.
I love that Cosmo Cricket always has something that is a little bit different and comes out with new collections that are completely original every time. They never just take a design and change up the colours a bit and call it something new. I always look forward to seeing what's new from Cosmo!
Ooohhh.. I *love* Cosmo Cricket goodies! Always so gorgeous to create with. :)
I love the coordination of their products. Awesome colors every time
I love their lines....and use them a lot...Becca Feeken turned me on to their Christmas papers and I cleaned out Archivers. Each line is so individual and I can find just about anything I can think of. And I would love to win the kits
I Love everything about Cosmo Cricket. The designs, the colors, each collection is unique and wonderful and so fun to play with!
I am a huge fan of Cosmo Cricket! Their designs are always so fun and lively with a little humor injected into them!
Great interview! Very fun to meet the minds behind the lines!
This is so fun to see where they come up with their genius lines. I love that everything cosmo is so different than anything anyone else does. Plus all the little stories about why they named paper this or that and why they named their chipboard buck naked. It shows how much fun they have in the creative process.
I have throughly enjoyed reading this interview. It only confirms that Julie and Eric are very connected with each other, the industry, what we crafters want and their passion. I have used many of their lines and have never been disappointed. Their blog is alway fun and informative.
I think I have enjoyed Cosmos Cricket since it first came out. Every line they have come out with is just so unique and also very timeless. I know this website is about spotting the trends but Cosmo Cricket is so much more then trends. Cosmo just rocks and they have a totally cute name!
Cosmo Cricket rocks! Love that Megan paper from the Honey Pie collection.
I love that the Cosmo Cricket papers are great for both scrapbooking and cards. I find that my scraps whip into great looking cards without much effort!
I love your lines! You do "boy" really well - I have three boys and you always hit the nail on the head with characters and colors.
Wow, that was a great interview! Julie and Eric are a cute couple! I am so excited about Cosmo's new fabric line! I can't wait to see what they have new at CHA!
Thanks for the fun article. Obviously they really enjoy what they do & it shows in their products. Love the Cogsmo line & would love to get my hands on some of their fabric.
Such a great interview! I absolutely love the Dutch Girl collection. I had to buy a extras of everything just so I would have some to keep and not cut.
I love the way the Cosmo Cricket site inspires creativity and a flow of ideas but in a very organized, approachable format. Too often sites are either inspiring but frustrating to actually navigate and purchase, or else they're organized in a way that sucks the life out of the products. Their site strikes the perfect note.
I always have to buy the entire line of their papers because they all work together so well ... I love the fun and funky styles that work so great for card making. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love Cosmo, I love the colour combos, and the fact that each collection seems so completely different then the last, always fresh and fun.
R
love the interview!
i love that cosmo is funky and innovative... i freaked over the cogsmo stuff! ultimately, i believe they are genuinely nice, caring people!
What is so inspiring about Julie and Eric is their ability to tell us what real life is within in this Cosmo Cricket work world, which is a huge part of their personal world! What I love most about the Cosmo Cricket product is the color combos they use on their papers, I just stare to take it all in! Thanks Cath! This is my first repsonse to your blog and I am loving everything about it!
Julie and Eric are brillant designers and have produced such creative paper lines. My current fav is Mr. Campy - love it! I also love that they have a great sense of humor and are just a little insane. Thanks for such a wonderful interview.
I just love Cosmo Cricket. I guess it makes me feel trendy, but I can actually use their product, really use it on a project instead of staring at the paper not knowing where to start.
Keep bringing gorgeous papers out!! :)
I have loved Cosmo Cricket for a few years now, I always try to get into their classes at Scrapfest and this year was able to get into one of their crops, too. So, I know that Julie is really a cool chick in person and on computer! Congrats on all your success.
I absolutely adore Cosmo Cricket! I fell in love with them with Dutch Girl and love them still today. The Mr. Campy line is simply FAB! Thanks for being awesome!
I Love that Eric and Julie can live together and work together without hurting eachother :) They seem to be a good team! I love Cosmo Cricket and this was a fun little look into their design process/ideas!

I love everything about Cosmo Cricket...I have just started using their papers for cardmaking as I am not a scrapper, but I love the colors and the vintage feel. I didn't know there were fabrics...uh oh!

I really enjoy what Cosmo Cricket comes out with each show. My favorite line has to me Cogsmo, with two small boys, and limited boy lines out there, this was perfection! :) Also, I'm a quilter, so I'm always excited to get paper AND fabric for my hobbies of the same line! :)
I just discovered Cosmo Cricket and I love your papers. Please keep coming up with great designs. I am not sure if you do 8x8 paper or 6x6 paper but if you do thank you and if you don't please do for us card makers. Happy Holidays!
I love all their lines! I love they have something for everything. I can use it for my girls and my son. I love how some of the designs are more fun and youthful and some of them are more aged and beautiful looking. I especially love all the matching accessories they offer!
WOW! I discovered your blog through the Cosmo Cricket site and must say you are my new fav! Your blog rocks and so does Cosmo Cricket!!!!
They're crazy and incredibly generous. What more could you ask from 2 people-fantastic product lines and than encourage people to help those less fortunate. A trip to their blog is usually a guaranteed smile. And who doesn't enjoy tormenting Lindsay!
I love cosmo cricket and it was really cool to get inside the owners heads and read how they design. Awesome interview on a awesome company
I love the worn, aged, vintage, shabby look of Cosmo's recognizable style . . . it instantly provides tons of inspiration!
Cosmo Cricket is one of the best paper lines out there (I just love the fabric too!) Every new line is well thought out and very trendy. I love it....and one of the greatest parts of this company is that it is a husband and wife team (and Mr Lindsay, of course!)
They are totally Moxie Fab! Thanks for a great feature, Cath!
I just love, love, love the colors of the products Eric and Julie create! I also love that they are married, work together, and still love each other so much. What a great example to us all! Thanks so much!
Aloha! Cosmo Cricket Rocks! I love how Cosmo Cricket's designs are always fresh and not a different version of something another company has already done. They're (the Comstocks) are just my kind of crazy people. Gotta love em.
your art literally reaches out to me off the shelves as being very unique and inspiring. The robot paper has made it's way to several scrapbook pages featuring my new grandson, Jonas, who's dad surrounds him with all things "alien" ...Julie and Eric ... keep up the good work and doing what you love doing!
Great article, I like to learn about the people behind the company - always interesting! I love that the Cosmo Cricket lines are aged and worn, but modern with cutting edge themes - THANKS!
What's not to love about Cosmo Cricket. There is always a paper line for any project you want to make. Very nice article. Thanks for sharing.
What a fun interview! What I love about Cosmo Cricket is that their lines always seem to be pushing the envelope.... I NEVER know what to expect and i LOVE that! Thanks for the interview!
I was just recently introduced to Cosmo Cricket by a link from another blog. But in that short of time I have seen a great deal of pride in their creations and work. I love some of their paper designs and can't wait to try some.
Cosmo Crickets products are always interesting, fun, beautiful and inspirational! Thanks for the great look behind the scenes and chance to win!!
I love Cosmo Cricket
their designs are FRESH and the colors always make my mouth salivate (in a good way). LoVe ThEm .... can't seem to get enough of their scrumptous goodies
Cosmo Cricket is AWESOME!!! I love the color combinations and designs. Can you say Bare Naked and not think of their chipboard ornaments or embellishments? I also love the Strip Tease sheets from their lines. The Comstocks like to have fun and it shows in their lines and designs...Go Cosmo Cricket!!!
I love everything about Cosmo Cricket!! My DH loves wearing the tie I got him LOL....I love the colors, the style, the aged look. There is nothing that I DON'T like about it!!! But my hubby looks especially cute in the tie...LOL
Cosmo Cricket paper is my MOST favorite paper line. For me the paper always become a catalyst for a creative project that was unknown to me at the time of purchase.
I love Cosmo Cricket!! The papers have a warm vintage feel to them!
I love the fact that their designs for paper and fabric appear old but new at the same time. Very fresh.
I love Cosmo Cricket. I love the vintagy-grungy-clever themes they come up with. I love how each line is different, but you can use several lines together when working on a layout. I just love how their stuff looks. Their blog is pretty cool too. Thanks for the opportunity!
I just have to say that I LOVE the fun colors, unique embellishments (like the text printed letters, rub ons, and blackboard stuff!!). I am always excited to see what is revealed at the trade shows by your company!!! Plus you both are so darn cute!
